The guy in your signature block.

If it isn't Jefferson, it's Colvin. Nobody else is close to those two.

Jefferson or Colvin

with an honorable mention to Casey Walker - simply because when he returned to the D line - their play changed dramatically

Jefferson/Colvin are the best players on the defense.

However, the guy that we suffer the most when he isn't on the field is King. In general, our DL and LBs are abysmal and it allows them to send tons of blockers into the secondary. King is the only guy we have that the other team HAS to respect and assign blockers too. Without him on the field, guys like Jefferson/Colvin see more blockers and are just not as effective.

Yep.

For all the crap people gave the D-line this year, we would have been in major trouble without King.

Jefferson/Colvin got most of the publicity (and justly), but King is right there with them in terms of MVP.

Jefferson with leading the team in tackles and more importantly, being able to cover for other players' gaffes every so often... and Colvin a very close second with his INTs.

No disagreement here. Jefferson first, Colvin close second.

Jefferson despite two bad games near the end. Colvin was playing out of his skull early on but seemed to be getting beat up on later in the season.

Gabe Lynn has been voted for by the opposition.

Jefferson, Colvin and Hurst are all studs. Mike's scheme asked too much from the secondary and it was showing by the end of the season as coaches had time to plan against it. They had to go man coverage all over the field and also be primary tacklers in run support. Man coverage takes more energy than zone and there were no players to rotate in like they do for lineman. You would see Jefferson have to spy a running QB on one play and then be the deep coverage on the next. Crazy. It was amazing these guys held up as well as they did.

I'd give a tie to Jefferson an Colvin.

Gabe Lynn has been voted for by the opposition.

Lynn developed into a pretty good cover guy, but never a good tackler in the open field.

Colvin, easily the best player.

Jefferson, MVP, because what he's been asked to do schematically. Would be impossible to replace.

Can we pass on naming one right now. I still have the West Virginia and Oklahoma State games imprinted in my mind and I cannot honor any one that played in those two games. At least not yet.

I will say I do like Jefferson, Colvin, Hurst, and several others on the D. But I'm just not ready.

I can see why STEP would say King. Great player and we would be in trouble without him. Still Jefferson put it on his shoulders this year and even when things weren't going well...he played with heart, never gave up and left it all on the field. That and his Stats tackling make him Defensive MVP IMO.

TJ, then Colvin...I wonder if either will make the jump to the NFL early?
