Four of the five Big 12 football coaches who vote in the USA Today coaches poll dramatically tried to help conference-member Oklahoma reach the lucrative Bowl Championship Series instead of Northern Illinois. It apparently didn't work.

Oklahoma's Bob Stoops, Baylor's Art Briles, Iowa State's Paul Rhoads and West Virginia's Dana Holgorsen all either voted Oklahoma No. 6 or Northern Illinois No. 24. Among all 59 coaches who voted, Oklahoma finished 11th and Northern Illinois 16th.

This shows the flaws of the coaches poll - coaches have hidden agendas. A second BCS bid would add more money to the big12 pot that gets split and the big12 coaches votes reflect that. Likewise, coaches of competing conferences would rather the big12 not get more $$ because there is no way all those coaches really thought NIU was a top 16 team.

The point isn't who is right or wrong; it's that big12 coaches differed so much in their rankings from coaches outside the big12.

The SEC love ESPN shows every year finally bit them in tha ***. The fact that there were so many 2 loss teams between OU and position #6 basically insured NIU's BCS appearance.
