From this morning: http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/rankings/bcs

This better not ****ing happen. Hopefully the voters will do the right thing. Northern Illinois is an OK mid major and will be without their head coach who took the NC State job yesterday.

thecrimsoncrusader
12/2/2012, 08:59 AM
Northern Illinois "might" be Kansas, but outside of the, even the lowly West Virginia and Baylor beat them by 50 points and don't give up many points in the process despite their bad defenses. UCLA shouldn't even be in those rankings.

After the beatdown of Nebraska last night, I can't see Nebraska staying at 15th either.

cleller
12/2/2012, 10:14 AM
As I understand it, as long as NIU holds the 16 spot, they are in and we are out. Correct? Pretty dumb formula. In this poll, Neb is 15. with their performance last night, what would make NIU drop lower than 16?

If this comes to pass, where do we go?

soonerwxman
12/2/2012, 10:26 AM
That is correct. If this holds, then NIU bumps us out of the BCS and we likely land in the Cotton Bowl against a SEC school- likely Georgia. What a joke the BCS is! I have friends that are Florida State fans and they are sick they will get 'stuck' playing Northern Illinois. Who wants to watch that?! Wonder if the Orange and Sugar Bowl committees love this system they bought into? Instead of an OU/Florida marque matchup, they get a Florida/Louisville Sugar Bowl. Orange gets a joke matchup too.

yermom
12/2/2012, 10:27 AM
i don't know how he can predict whatever the cabal of voters will decide today

how many teams should NIU jump that didn't play or won? how close will it be? are the computers going to hurt or help them? Kent State should help the SOS, but Boise would be my pick to ruin our day. wouldn't be the first time

i think the MWC champ is a little more impressive than the MAC champ.

yermom
12/2/2012, 10:29 AM
and the Cotton gets #2 Big 12, #3 SEC

i'm pretty sure #2 goes to the Capital One Bowl, which should be Georgia, leaving us with LSU, unless they pick strangely like when the Cotton Bowl took OSU over Texas in 2003 for some reason.

cleller
12/2/2012, 10:31 AM
Apparently there is an 11th hour way for humans to override the computer votes, screw NIU and keep a better Oklahoma team in the BCS.

What a McDougall.

soonerinabilene

Brad Edwards, who is the best BCS analyst, has us in the Sugar against Florida. I don't think I've ever seen him be wrong before.

Ruf/Nek7
12/2/2012, 11:41 AM
When it all comes down to it, our fate lies in the hands of the human polls. The BCS computer rankings are not fond of NIU. It is going to take the coaches and the Harris poll reps to keep NIU out.

soonerwxman
12/2/2012, 12:06 PM
NIU moved up two spots (to 16) in the Coaches Poll, three spots in front of UCLA (18) and 5 ahead of the Huskers (21). Start to look like Cotton Bowl projections will be right us...

That's a huge jump for Louisville from 23 to 18. Any change they move ahead of NIU in the final BCS rankings? Do the computers like Lville at all?

If it works out this way OU will only be the second most unhappy participant in the BCS crapfest behind whichever bowl gets NIU. The 3rd most unhappy participant will be whichever team has to play them. IMO the team playing NIU may be unhappier than OU.

woo woo NIU.

we lost 2 games at home...i ain't complaining about not being a BCS team

Obviously there's no way we will play NIU, as one of us, but not both will make the BCS. But I take your point: there are worse fates than playing Georgia in the Cotton Bowl.

I really don't care if we get knocked out of a BCS game, we'll still end up in a good bowl against someone different. It's hard for me to imagine the Big XII being "okay" with letting that payday go, so I'd suspect there will be some serious conversations about it before deciding not to include OU.

i would too. was going to say the same thing about UCONN. that was stupid. the whole "media event" of it. that Boise team had a lot of 5th seniors and we won the Big XII with smoke and mirrors with PT at QB. they won the game, hooray for every football fan in america on the dramatic upset....but BSU beat an OU team that was ranked about 15-20 most of the season until Fran failed to call Toombs up the middle, MU can't stop the run and Allen Patrick was the man,.....and then, we beat NU when it mattered (samo samo).....all of a sudden we are in a BCS bowl.

wasn't like they beat the Selmons or Tony Casillas or Joe Washington....but that's the story....we got. David, GOliath....a referendum on big versus small.

god bless ENA but we lost to Texas....this isn't a Sooner Juggernaut. what the world fails to understand.

Well, this definitely sucks if we get shut out, but that's the price we pay for losing two games...and that's just the way the system works. Personally, I think there needs to be a little more human judgment on this because NIU has ZERO business being in a BCS bowl. If they get in, I pray they get massacred.

The joke is that NIU is not very good. Lost to a bad Iowa team, barely beat Army, beat Kansas at home by 7. Can anyone honestly tell me that they would finish better than than 8th in the Big XII? That's the joke part, the part that is frustrating. Why did the idiots who came up with this system set the number so low at 16?? And lets all be honest.
