During a hockey game on a February evening back in 1980, Al Michaels asked, "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!" Well, here is another one:
This is Emma Kay. She was born today at 1131 am. She weighs 6 pounds, 3 ounces and is 18 inches. Emma's mother is 50 years old and was told several years ago, after four miscarriages, by doctors that she would never have a healthy pregnancy again, much less a healthy baby without donor egg or in-vitro or a surrogate. Emma is a naturally conceived, naturally carried baby...no donor anything.
EMMA KAY IS MY BEAUTIFUL DAUGHTER!!!
She is a living embodiment of the simple fact that God does exist...and He answers prayers. Do you believe in miracles? I know I do...I have a tiny, beautiful, perfect miracle in my arms!

 Believe me, I know she'll get crap for it in school when her classmates find out how old Carolyn is. Whatever...all I know is that she's gonna be the most loved baby of all time. We had given up...it had been three years since C's last m/c, and I was getting deployed left and right. Then we got this little miracle, and I got orders to Europe. Needless to say that I found the two windows after the door got closed.

So have you stepped back, put your hands on your hips, and soaked it all in, thinking, "I made that. Hell yeah." yet?

I did with mine. It was amazing. Just the moment of realization that you could build a thousand bridges and because of that singular jewel, you're no longer a bridge builder. You're a father.

Honest, heartfelt congratulations, man. Welcome to the club.

When I was born, the doctors:

Said I wouldn't live to see my 6th birthday
Said if I did live that long, I'd be a vegetable
Said I'd be a midget
In the weeks previous, they discouraged carrying me to full term

Well......

I turned 45 in August.
Maybe I'm off on this, but I'm pretty sure 5'10" doesn't qualify for midget status.
My wife might say they had a point on the vegetable thing, but most everybody else I know thinks there's an at the least semi-functioning noggin on my shoulders.
I'm sorta glad that my folks disregarded the last one.

The bottom line? They missed; it happens. Do I believe in miracles? You bet I do, this 'ol bag of bones reminds me of 'em every day I get up.

Oh, & congrats, she's a doll. :)

Miss Emma had her first professional photo shoot yesterday, and I need a gun...except I can't have one in Germany. Hopefully, I'll be in location where they do allow firearms once she turns 16:

Thank you all for the well-wishes. I'm still in total shock. We had truly given up, and I stare down at her and think "how in the hell did this happen? She's so perfect!"

Ok...Carolyn and I are rolling over these comments...that's some funny ****.

Thanks guys...I needed that...especially after running all over hell today to get Emma's birth certificate, enroll her in the military records system, get her enrolled in the military healthcare system, then get denied a SSN by the SSA cause they think it will take 3-4 weeks. Hello? I am moving to Germany NEXT MONTH...Emma needs a passport...a passport requires a SSN...gimme the goddamn SSN!

They're getting an encore visit from me first thing in the morning...and I am NOT leaving without a SSN for my daughter!
