I think recruiting based on "stars" rather than a complete package of talent and passion is the failing of both OU and Texas. Too many of the "star" guys don't have the work ethic or hunger needed to be great because they have always been able to rely strictly on ability. A guy like AD is the exception rather than the norm.

We need backers in the middle... the big play we gave up was Wort in the middle getting blocked on the left side opening the middle. A few adjustments (please adjust!) and we should be OK. Shannon in the middle saved a TD run... only whiffed on the potential sack on Chelf.

I think we're OK... settle down and play soundly. Offense is now humming.

It helps to motivate when you have three guys waiting to take your scholarship. I'm not saying the staff doesn't have any blame in for the situation, after all they are the ones doing the recruiting. It's just amazing that Snyder can take two star guys and put a pretty good defense out there, mainly because a lot of those guys have a chip on their shoulder and are willing to work, a lot like the 2000 team had.

SEC schools are a horrid example because up until this last year (via rule change) they will run you off if you don't pan out. Nothing like a little motivation to get those guys to work. The big 12 had rules AGAINST that kind of behavior.

That last TD run was a microcosm of what is wrong with this front 7.

1) The DTs pick a direction instead of looking for the ball. On that run both DTs went outside and made it a crazy easy seal for the OGs. This also freed up the Center to get on the linebacker.

2) The only DL player that beat his man was Grissom, but the angle was so bad that he knocked Randle forward.

3) Shannon picked a direction to go on the OL instead of standing his ground. Easy read for the running back.

4) The safeties were incredibly slow to recognize the play and only hit him at the 1.
