OU fell two spots to lucky 13 after losing to UCLA at home (http://espn.go.com/womens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8652681/stanford-cardinal-edge-uconn-huskies-new-no-1-ap-poll). Baylor, WVU, Texas, Pokette and Kansas are the other Big 12 ranked teams.

The end of an era: Ford's Pokes are finally ranked (for the first time since his Stillwater arrival) after upsetting NC State. (http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/8652787/indiana-hoosiers-louisville-cardinals-1-2-ap-poll-kentucky-wildcats-fall-8th) OU will need to keep winning to get mentions, but it'll happen. Our local media has votes too. KU and Baylor are the only other ranked Big 12 teams... that can't bode well for our conference RPI/SoS/wtf come tourney time.

I am officially impressed with both OSU team this year and Smart. The kid is a very good player.

I think the Pokes will make quiet a bit of noise this year, sadly.

In order for the men's team to get a sniff of the top 25 is to go undefeated OOC. That would include a win over what appears to be decent Arkansas and A&M teams.

With KU, OSU & Baylor already ranked, and Texas right on the edge, conference play is going to be tough. I will be VERY happy if this team can get to 17 or 18 wins.

Lon Kruger is a very good coach and will have OU playing excellent ball come conference play.

OU easily has more talent this year than last year, especially if Cam Clark gets it figured out. I know I was sad when he didn't choose OSU. Plus Fitz might be the most under-rated player in the conference.

We were on the edge last year till the Billikens exposed us. Then, we were pretty much done with coming close to the rankings :(

OKLAST may be ranked now, but they will NOT be ranked by Sunday... because we will beat them...

...in football.

Basketball? Welllll.. maybe our engineers will have the invisible hoop shield up and running by then. Let's hope they remember to put it over the POKE basket for BOTH halves. :P

With Baylor dropped from the rankings, Big 12 now only has two mens teams (KU and Poke) ranked. Linky (http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings)

On the women's side, however, six Big 12 teams are ranked by the AP, including OU at No. 12. Linky (http://espn.go.com/womens-college-basketball/rankings)

KU and OKLAST continue to be the only Big 12 mens teams ranked, but the Baylors and EMAWs are getting votes: Linky (http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/OSU/article.aspx?subjectid=93&articleid=20121203_93_0_Indian15748)

Sooner women dropped to lucky 13 just behind undefeated whorn (probably because we have one loss and they don't... or word has gotten out that we have NINE players on our roster who aren't OUT ALL SEASON WITH INJURIES!). However, the conference is well-rep'd with Skeletor third, whorn 12th, Pokette sweet 17, KU 18th, and fight fight fight for Iowa State 22nd. Also receiving votes were Skeltor-voted-first West Virginia: Linky (http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/article.aspx?subjectid=234&articleid=20121203_234_0_Stanfo749395)

This is shaping up to be a token-two bid season for the Big 12, isn't it?

KU and OKLAST are still the only Big 12 teams ranked on the men's side. No other Big 12 teams are even getting pity votes. Derp.

On the women's side, Big 12 continues to be the strongest conference in the sport, with 6 ranked teams (Bail, OU, OKLASTette, lady whorn, female rock chalk and mountie) and another receiving votes (can't think of way to make fun of Iowa State at the moment).

Idea: Expand the basketball poll to beyond 25 teams.

Why:
1- More schools play D-1 basketball than D-1 football
2- More teams make THE postseason (NCAA tournament) in basketball than THE postseason (the BCS) in football.

We should hear about bracket busting mid-majors for the first time in March. Let's hear about them all season! Let's help people fill out their 68-team brackets! Let's expand the rankings to...

35??? (which would be pointless, since about 10 teams are always among "always receiving votes")

50! (much better!)

The Big 12 just added another ranked team: Kansas State (http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/OSU/article.aspx?subjectid=93&articleid=20121224_93_0_Dukean860433). So now, with KU and Poke, we have a grand total of three ranked teams on the mens side. Yay?

On the womens side, Baylor continues to be the unquestioned hated ones. Pokette is still undefeated, so they're like the Tech women of last year: Creampuff non-conference schedule to move up the rankings. Yay? Actually, they are to be feared and respected this time around, even if they don't have another Andrea Riley on their hands.

Other ranked teams on the womens side are us, lady whorn, and Kansas, but NOT West Vaginny, which dropped out again. (http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/article.aspx?subjectid=234&articleid=20121224_234_0_Stanfo678523)

A hearty pat on the back to Colorado, who despite their lackluster showing in the Pac 12 on the football side, have shown some basketball potential on both the mens and womens side.

I don't know how good we actually are, but I do know that Brittney Martin is the real deal. She's only a true freshman but she is very, very good. We seem to shoot the ball from 3 very well, but I'm worried about our inside play. Toni Young is the only one that I know has a chance to get every rebound.

Also, we have the nation's longest winning streak. That is a contributing factor to our ranking. And this team is still playing for Kurt which is a huge emotional boost.

It was really cool that the recruit that Kurt et al went to go see on that fateful plane ride ended up coming to Stillwater. Alas, she'll be tagged as *that* recruit the rest of her career.

Your mens team has been more impressive than I would like to admit. The fact that you need Boonie to pony up for thousands of tickets to get people back in GIA is far more embarrassing that most Pokes would like to admit.

But, regardless, I still have very, VERY blind faith in Lon Kruger and Sherri Coale and will be willing to put up the thought of an embarrassing avatar, sig and location here if you are once again. If you want to make it something that gets OP all riled up like last year's that would be fine.

Everyone is on Christmas break and the game is on NYE. I don't think it's a huge deal that he bought 4000 tickets and gave them away. This is a massive game for us.

I'll make the bet with you. 2.10 is the one I'm most scared of.

Our men's team is an excellent defensive team for the first time since Eddie. So even if we have an off night offensively, I think we can still put up just enough points to pull it out.

My family has booked tix to the Big XII tourny in Dallas, which isn't any further away than Norman and we can drive down 3 days consecutive when OU advances. There is absolutely no fail in that from our viewpoint and much, much better than having the tourny in a far off non-Big XII state. But the car ride home may be uncomfortable when Baylor wins the championship. Ha!

Hardly. Everyone expects Baylor to win. I expect YOU to be on the uncomfortable side when OU shocks the world and defeats Baylor, and everyone else. We'll probably only have four active players by then, adding to the shock and misery.

It appears that all of the polls are out. KSU is on the outside edge of one, but No. 25 in the other, while OSU is in the mid-20s and KU is No. 6 in both. No "also" votes, so just those three right now on the men's side. Still, three is better than two.

On the women's side, Baylor is making people forget that they lost to Stanford (who got obliterated by the Conn) and rose to No. 2 by 100-pointing some nobody.

Also mentioned are undefeated OSU (10-0), us, and KU. Among the "also" votes are Iowa State, West Virginia and Texas.

The unquestioned loser this week on both sides is Poke. The women were undefeated and rose to No. 13, before getting humbled by both Tech and Baylor. The Poke men had only one loss going into this week (on the road at Va Tech) and then came out of this week with two more respectable, but still... LOSSES, to KSU (now ranked No. 18) and Gonzaga (now No. 9).

The winner? Kansas State men was barely in the polls last week but jumped to No. 18, so the Octagon of Doom might be back (in time for us to beat them twice again, lol). For the women, I'll go sympathetically with Iowa State, since they are about to get their second loss of the season as they meet Baylor (now No. 1 again). The real winner, however, is none other than our Oklahoma Sooners, who fought off an early West Virginia lead at LNC to get victory in the final minutes (trailed the entire game up to that point) and also coming away with a victory in Austin against "rival" Texas (hard to think of them like that as much anymore since they've sucked lately). Is this the same team that lost four players and was down to 8 active roster athletes?!

Another reason for football fans to turn to basketball now, aside from the season ending tonight, is that it is a lot easier for everyone to be competitive in basketball. The stadiums aren't as expensive, the equipment isn't as expensive, so virtually every school can field a D-1 basketball team.

Also, like the NFL, it's hard for one program to stay on top forever, but is impressive if you can pull it off.

Depending on what poll you look at, we might have just lost to the two No. 1 teams in the country. Meh.

Oh if only we had beaten our state of Kansas opponents too... our men got two votes in USA Today/ESPN, similar to when we beat Texas A&M earlier this season. If we had beaten KSU (grrrr) I think we would have snuck into a poll or two.

The women lost at West Virginia yesterday in the most horrendous fashion possible. It's so bad I'm not blogging about it... at least not yet. We dropped down to No. 23, probably because most pollsters didn't watch it (lucky them).

There's a lot to be sad about for losing this weekend on both fronts. The losses by both teams meant we're both on the outside looking in... but at least we're looking:

Seriously... if we never wear pink again I don't think we'd be dishonoring breast cancer awareness and prevention at all, especially if we never lose in those damn pinkie outfits anymore. It seems like every year we lose in pink.

Even though it's not to the same extent, there is a media bias of the Big 10 in men's hoops. Purdue has no business being in the top 25, and I'm not sure Ohio State and Wisconsin belong there either.

As for OU, I think we're right where we should be. Right on the fringe. This team has had a chance 4 of the past 5 weeks to enter the top 25 with a weekend win, and just couldn't do it...with the schedule we have remaining, I think a top 25 appearance is likely by conference tournament time.

EDIT: I realized that Purdue is ranked in the woman's top 25...disregard my Purdue comment above.
