NORMAN — The Big 12 Conference announced on Monday that QB Landry Jones has been named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after leading Oklahoma to a 50-49 comeback victory at West Virginia.

The senior from Artesia, N.M., threw for a school-record 554 passing yards. He held the previous record of 505 set against Kansas State on Oct. 29, 2011. His six touchdown passes tied a school record he set against Tulsa on Sept. 19, 2009. Jones threw the game-winning touchdown to WR Kenny Stills on fourth down with 0:24 remaining.

Jones has 15,624 career passing yards and needs 170 yards to overtake Texas Tech’s Graham Harrell (15,793) as the Big 12’s career leader in passing yards. He is fifth in NCAA history and second in Big 12 annals in career total offense with 15,262 yards. He needs 350 yards to bypass Harrell (15,611) for the all-time Big 12 lead in that category. He also owns 117 passing touchdowns for sixth all-time in the NCAA and second in the Big 12.

He has thrown for 3,245 yards this season, becoming just the third QB in FBS history with 3,000 passing yards in four different seasons, joining Kellen Moore (Boise State) and Timmy Chang (Hawaii).

And it all came down to that last 5yd TD pass on 4th down. If that one is incomplete, I can't imagine Player of the Week going to anyone but that Austin kid.

I'm happy Landry got it, but I think Austin deserved it more.

For the record --- during this WVU losing streak, the WVU defense has awarded MANY Big 12 Offensive Players of the Week awards this season :D

How many? I think they've issued one for EACH of WVU's five-straight losses, if I'm not mistaken

Landry had more yards, more TDs and did what it took for his team to win. Tavon only had two TDs, so he obviously didn't do everything he could and burned a lot of precious clock that WVU needed because of his dancing and high-stepping. He was all yards and very little TDs. Come to thank of it, Tavon sucked. :)

Exactly. This is Amurca -winner take all. And we gave Austin 1 last chance by using a standard kick-off right to him. He runs that back far enough and they score and he wins. I was surprised we kicked off to him and a bit surprised he didn't burn us.

I was equally surprised, the way he was running, that WVU came out throwing right away. I know only 21 seconds left, but still...he could easily have covered half the field in a quarter of that time.
