NORMAN — The Big 12 Conference announced on Monday that QB Landry Jones has been named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week after leading Oklahoma to a 50-49 comeback victory at West Virginia.
The senior from Artesia, N.M., threw for a school-record 554 passing yards. He held the previous record of 505 set against Kansas State on Oct. 29, 2011. His six touchdown passes tied a school record he set against Tulsa on Sept. 19, 2009. Jones threw the game-winning touchdown to WR Kenny Stills on fourth down with 0:24 remaining.
Jones has 15,624 career passing yards and needs 170 yards to overtake Texas Tech’s Graham Harrell (15,793) as the Big 12’s career leader in passing yards. He is fifth in NCAA history and second in Big 12 annals in career total offense with 15,262 yards. He needs 350 yards to bypass Harrell (15,611) for the all-time Big 12 lead in that category. He also owns 117 passing touchdowns for sixth all-time in the NCAA and second in the Big 12.
He has thrown for 3,245 yards this season, becoming just the third QB in FBS history with 3,000 passing yards in four different seasons, joining Kellen Moore (Boise State) and Timmy Chang (Hawaii).
