I shall go this holiday weekend. And think of SicEm angrily stabbing his Lincoln voodoo doll all the while.

Spoiler alert.

He ****s up the country then gets shot in the head by some B actor. And in that scene, a pasty white skinny guy is arrested for his impersonation of Pee Wee Herman in the back row.

Wife and I saw it the other night. I found it a bit tedious. The acting was superb, production values top-notch. But the story itself labored in the politics of the day. To me, the opponents of the 13th amendment (within the US Congress) never voiced the grounds for their opposition; the Democrats were simply shrill and bitter losers.

President Lincoln is portrayed as a tired, exasperated man, noble, yet still operating with an "ends justifying the means" mentality. From what I know, this is an accurate image.

The movie just takes a long time to get from Point A to Point B. This movie is almost entirely about political wrangling, behind-the-scenes arm twisting, and outright buy-offs.

Lincoln's domestic issues with his wife Mary and son that wishes to enlist (name escapes me) are addressed.

The flavor of the time period is captured, certainly. Just takes awhile getting things done. Some will be fine with the pace of Lincoln, but I suspect many will not.

Finally saw this. I thought it was very well done. Amazing pace for what is basically 2.5 hours of political sausage-making. DDL is absurdly talented.

Thoroughly enjoyed it, wife hated it...that means it's good.

The House vote scene was surreal. It takes a lot for me to get "caught up" in a movie, but that did it.
