This type of crappy performance is what usually happens when you pull a novelty defensive scheme out of your *** for one or two games. OU doesn't have the dominant DL to be able to run that type of crap.

Yeah, they only used the LBs when Buie was in at RB. They treated Austin like a WR all night long.

It is simple. Its all in how he sets his defensive alignment. He puts 6 defensive backs in to match the spread. They all have man to man assignments and sometimes man cover 2. That leaves one man in the middle. 5 O linemen to 4 d linemen so that frees the center to get to the second level and pick up the ONE man in the middle. That leaves all the space in the world for the running back. And the biggest problem is that he has yet to make any kind of adjustments. He just keeps on rolling it out there expecting it to miraculously change and work.

Imagine what it would be if he wouldn't slam on the brakes once he hits the 30. Or sub a hot qb on 2nd and 7. Or sub a hot qb on 1st and 10. He's slowed them down more than any defense.

All of this would be a non-issue with Travis Lewis, Frank Alexander and Ronnell Lewis. This defense is quite simply even less talented than last season's defense. Thank goodness Venables wasn't back this season with this crew, OU would have two more losses right now.

it's not the xs and os, it's the jimmys and the joes. The defensive line, especially the ends, are the worst we've had here. What do people expect Mike Stoops to do about that? Go see if Gerald McCoy is still eligible?
