I think Red Skelton would have done well in a movie like Waterworld. Just my humble opinion.

This is not very scientific, but I went over to Ebay and entered "antique clock", and scrolled thru a few pages. Lots of old clocks over there, but most just run in the $100-$200 range.

Old clocks are impressive to look at, but I imagine there are just a lot out there. In the old days, everyone had one. Since they were kept up where they could be taken care of, a lot of the them survived in good shape and got passed down. They were too nice to throw away, so everyone has one sitting around, or stashed in a closet. I've got one about 5 feet away from me right now.

On the other hand, I know nothing about clocks.

Vet, maybe check with a clock repair shop. They might have knowledge
or could give you a referral.

It's a Parthenon Clock. I think EBAY or the internet should be of help if the folks in Arkansas tell you "WTF is that?".

Also...who it's made by and if it's working or ever been restored will have everything to do with it's value. My Father and I went antiquing when we lived in Michigan and I had a Friend (Dana-RIP) that used to fix and repair old clocks as well as pocket watches.

Just a quick search for mantle clocks revealed this one....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Beautiful-1896-ANTIQUE-WM-L-GILBERT-MANTLE-CLOCK-/170937350493?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27cca8f95d

That one looks like it been refinished and the seller says it's in bad shape...much worse than yours....but you'll need to find a real expert to find out if you have a $50-250 Clock or a rare item that would bring 100's more.

He'll take $249, but would prefer payment in tangible assets like skins, jerky, pork bellies, or football tickets.
