The JUCO WR that was the most sought after player in the JUCO ranks confirmed today that he will not be coming to OU for next season. As you may remember, Gardner was supposed to be on this year's team, but ran into academic problems. He remained high on the Sooners, and it looked like he would be on campus in January.

That has changed.

Gardner has elected to sit out this year, and apply for the 2013 NFL draft.

Fortunately, we look to have a pretty deep WR corps going forward, so it's really not going to be a big blow. Kind of a surprise though.

It's been confirmed. The story is up on SoonerNation (on ESPN).

LOL. That's the first thing I thought.

I'm sure he'll go on to make millions, followed by spending it all then ending up as a cautionary tale somewhere down the line.

We're loaded at WR, we'll have everyone back from this year's group except Justin Brown. We'll be fine without this guy.

Here's a little more info:

Gardner has been in constant communication with OU receivers coach Jay Norvell throughout this process. And when Gardner told Norvell it didn’t look like he could reach OU by January, Norvell said it probably wasn’t going to work out with Gardner and OU.

Sounds more like OU said "thanks, but no thanks".

What a squandered opportunity. You don't see many JUCO to NFL players.

This was in the Monday morning Tulsa World. Don't have the link; I read it in the real paper this morning.

We will be just fine without him but I still wish him the best.

I figured we would never see him since his grades were always "almost there". But then again, I predicted Metoyer would never play at OU, so what do I know.

I wonder if Gardner expected Norvell to tell him buh-bye when the conversation started?

That's what it sounded like to me. I'm sure he would love to come play in Norman, but I don't think he has the mental facilities to make that happen, unfortunately.
