Spaziani is a well-known user of unconventional motivational tactics, such as publicly throwing his players under the bus in media interviews and kicking players off the team for no reason. Among those who have been removed from the team under mysterious circumstances under Spaziani are ACC all-time leading rusher Montel Harris, who signed on with Temple for the 2012 season; Atlanta Falcons quarterback Dominique Davis, who excelled at East Carolina University after being kicked off the team as one of Spaziani's first official acts as BC coach; and Marshall starting defensive backs Dominick LeGrande and Okechukwu Okoroha.
Spaziani is also well-known for having punched then-BC offensive coordinator Kevin Rogers in the face in the BC locker room during halftime of a loss at nationally-known football power Central Florida on September 10, 2011. Spaziani and DeFillippo subsequently paid Rogers (who would become the quarterbacks coach at Temple the following season) off to "retire for medical reasons" and the Dago Duo's allies in the media, led by famed Spaziani ballwasher Mark Blaudschun, were happily complicit in covering the incident up.
As of October 26, 2012, BC fans expected Spaziani to begin showing up for home games wearing a dirty wife beater, possibly a tribute to his mentor O'Brien who would frequently coach games wearing an old pair of jorts.
