View Full Version : Domers Struggling With Pitt

Difference in the game from last week: ND already has 5 penalties for 41 yards that have helped stall drives and they haven't been able to break off any big plays. Apparently the Big East officials call it evenly when there is a Big East opponent playing ND.

Golson looks pretty average so far. Pitt is running on ND. ND looks like they put in a little extra practice time for OU... not so much for the Panthers.

Last week, ND played nearly the perfect game to beat us. I doubt they can continue to play at that level each week. Golson was amazing and was frankly the difference last week.

Yeah no matter the outcome of today's game i thought that Notre Dame played way over their heads last week, especially Golston; of course it helps when your friends in stripes don't call any penalties on you

Their first mistake today will be their first in two weeks. :(

Their 3rd down conversion rate was very good last week...not so much this week.

Today ND is struggling with their passing game especially on 3rd down. It seems apparent that they had been working on a game plan that included timing patterns on the edges against our 1 on 1 coverage.

Pitt is horrible.

There is no excuse for us losing to ND. None.

FaninAma
11/3/2012, 04:58 PM
Golson isn't even in the game now. I don't know if he is hurt. Perhaps he was a little more banged up from last weeks game than we thought.

A few mediocre QBs have had their career games against us. McNeil from TAMU in 2002 springs to mind.

Just posted about the disparity ND had in the Game against us in another thread. ONE PENALTY?

Seriously....we had like two scores taken back because of calls ND didn't get. It's showing that not only are the Refs affecting the outcome of games....the Instant Replay is a huge joke. I have to say that there have been some replays where they seemed to get things right but so many games aren't covered with as many angles as others.

If the NCAA is going to use Instant Replay, they need some standards for what equipment each venue is using and making sure they all have the same amount of coverage and angles as well as quality. If they don't then Schools with their own Networks will be at a definite advantage and can cover games however they want them covered. I just don't think things are really covered fairly or consistently and in our case...I really do think the Refs gave ND an edge against us at Home.

FaninAma
11/3/2012, 05:06 PM
Golson is back in. He looks really slow and ND's passing game is just bad. Their receivers look slow and they are playing with no heart whatsoever.

They may come back and pull it out but it looks like they left it on the field in Norman which makes me suspect that Kelly spent a lot of time preparing for OU.

I think they are a very disciplined Team but no way Kelly and his Staff are better than Bob's and the game was a fluke.

I don't either. I just think Kelly had his team preparing for OU for several weeks....not just the week of the game. I do think sometimes Bob is unwilling to change things around in big games and give the opponent a different look just to keep them honest.

I can go with better but certainly not cleaner. Just because the refs ignore it, doesn't mean it didn't happen.

ND is going to need to play the game of their life every Week. If they can nearly choke at Home to Pitt, they aren't safe at Boston College, Wake Forest or especially the trojams.

In 2000 we had a good run like they are this year and it got tough those last few games. They have the Undefeated Blues lurking in the shadows. I'm not sure they can pull it off but if they do....

I have had a tough time digesting that loss we had against them. I'm going to try and go to South Bend next year. I have heard Bob and Josh found a QB that lives outside Taos, New Mexico that is Cousin to Landry and can throw a football so high it blocks out the sunlight. :D

It sure is a good thing we don't have any Catholic Sooners or else some of you people hating on the Pope and a whole religion would look pretty foolish.

Yeah, that'd be pretty awful (said the guy who lives the America's most Cat'lic city, and whose wife works at a Catholic school, and whose daughters graduated from the oldest girls's school - yep, it's a Cathlic one --in the USA.)

But speaking of Notre D, is any win of theirs not a "quality" win in the eyes of the sports media? I suggest that if K State had been taken to 3 OTs at HOME by an unranked Pitt, we'd be hearing about how "suspect" KSU looked and how it might cost them poll votes. But with ND, every win is a glorious triumph over dire adversity, thanks to the will, guts, and character of mighty ND. (Yes, I'm cynical.)

What really pisses me off is the fact that the talking heads, esecially on ESPN, act like ND dominated the game against OU. ND had 2 big plays and then the cheap scores at the end and the officials were responsible for taking 11 points off OU's side of the scoreboard.

The fact that the stripes were so chicken sht about the last OU TD and were not going to allow OU to score no matter what was just an attempt to make the final margin look worse for BCS purposes in my paranoid opinion.

Glad to hear it! Unfortunately, they did beat one team we can't complain much about -- US! :-(

I'd rather see a few never-say-die head bashers than another golden-armed statue.

Credit ND for hanging in there... but, my God what a ****in choke job. Literally the worst I've ever seen. The OSU choke jobs against Texas all those years actually were better than that today. Pitt literally **** the bed in the last six minutes on.

yes, it was almost hard to watch. Played a great game, got the breaks they needed then threw it all away. I thought at least they'd run 1 play to the center of the field to help the kicker but they kept all their plays on the right hash and of course, he misses right.

What else is horrible is that on the 33 yarder pitt missed that would've won the game, ND had 2 players with the same number (#2) on the field at the same time and it wasn't called. would've given Pitt another chance to re-kick....horrible! lucky lucky domers

I think ND is just on one of those rolls where they just play to what is facing them. Down two scores in the 4th quarter? Try to score. Bingo! They score. Then it just keeps going their way and the Refs don't call the games tough and boom. They have pulled off another Win. Then Lou Holtz goes on TV and tells everyone they are a Team of Destiny and will not lose a Game this year. Then HBO buys the rights to a few showings and starts playing "Rudy" on Friday Nights until Sunday Evening.

If ND does lose a Game.....

I think this might be the year they finally check Dr. Lou for a pulse and then nail his Crypt-keeper a$$ shut in a pine box and throw 6 feet of dirt on it.

That said....

It is pretty funny to watch him and Mark May have a pillow fight every week.

Notre Dame cannot stay "lucky" forever. If the team that played last Saturday had shown up at OU the week before, it would have been a different game! Pitt is not a good team, and ND made mistakes. Remember a loss at the end of the season hurts more than one early in the season. Kansas State may find that out with Klein injured. You never know, OU may still have chance with the Big XII title. Injuries make a HUGE difference.

Yea, "Rudy" was on yesterday or the day before. Watched a little of it but figured it would be on every weekend for the next few months. Kind of like Shawshank Redemption. Plenty of chances to watch it.
ND reminds me a bit of our 2000 NC team.
