So my oldest son and I were discussing so of our more recent FB's and he thinks Millard > Runnels > Clapp. My thought is that Runnels was actually used the way he should have been so we have no clue how god Millard actually is. Thoughts?

Millard is an exceptionally gifted athlete...great hands, got some hops, strong
as a bull. He can do whatever the coaches ask him to do and do it well. He
could be a 1500 yard tailback in a system that wanted him to. Runnels had
good hands and a good blocker but not as versatile as Millard. Clapp was a
blocking beast. Millard is da man!

Kenny King could have been a great wishbone halfback just as easily.

We have had some great ones recently. Millard may be the best of the bunch, although my favorite is Runnels.

Going way back, the starting FB in 1973 was Waymon Clark. Really tough to bring down. Got kicked off the squad in the off-season. Gained 1,014 yards in '73 to compliment Little Joe's 1,173 (and QB Davis had close to 900 yards rushing, I think - almost had three 1,000 yard rushers on the same squad).

One of my favorites was Gumbo Fazande.

Owens is listed as a running back. Wonder about Millard as a wishbone fullback...

Millard is easily the best of the Stoops Era.
Then Runnels, who was very good, just not as good as Millard. Probably not even in any single area.
Clapp, a distant 3rd.

I sometimes forget that Millard is a fullback. That's how versatile he is. I hope we continue to use him every way we can.

Runnels was almost used exclusively as a blocker, w/ an occasional check-down/screen. 2 career carries, 50 catches.

They get the ball to Millard a lot more frequently. Over 100 career touches in 2.5 years.

If we're talking modern times than it's Millard.

I liked Seth Littell's football IQ.

Great ones from the 80s!

Millard is so fun to watch. I hope he gets 10+ touches a game. Gonna miss him.

What about Rotnei Anderson? Still got the SI

Best of the Stoops era: Millard

Best I've seen play at OU: Kenny King

That '78 backfield was an embarrassment of talent. It is beyond incredible that we didn't win the NC that year.

Leon Heath. The "Mule Train". Hands down the best FB in OU history. Lead the nation in 1949 with 9.1 ypc.
