I have been hoping somebody would ask one of the opponents of the Electoral College in the eminent presence of the East Coast storm if they would still be in favor of the concept of a popular vote? I would love to have them on record.

i been bitchin about the electoral college since 1980, at least! Need to have
the popular vote...would bring into play a LOT of states that dont mean jack
now...

I think the EC probably needs to go away at some point. But it's gonna take an amendment to do so.

OTOH, would dumping the EC give even more political clout to metropolitan areas? Or should that matter one way or the other?

How about this... trade the EC for popular vote... with the proviso that voters must pass a very simple civics/poll test written in English.
