The story was repeated here recently. I'm trying to educate younger, and less well-versed fans. Corso and Herbstreit should do a piece on it. Corso is definitely old enough to remember, but may be too senile.

Rumor has it he was also the Grassy Knoll Gunman recruited by the CIA to frame Lee Harvey Oswald. Don't let it go beyond the board though.

One story is that a JC transfer that Bud was recruiting had access to
the playbook and was seen watching Tuesday's closed practise from
across the street. Then during the game the same recruit was seen
on Notre Dame's sideline.

Somewhere on here it was alleged a player showed up in the fall, made the team, then disappears before the ND game, with his playbook.

The Undefeated by Jim Dent and published by Thomas Dunne Books, is a great read of the 47 game winning streak. I highly recommend it.

Why didn't I think of that? Just read it over. Sounds like 1 part spying, 1 part dirty tricks imported "hispanic girls" spreading rumors to rile the ND players, and 1 part complacency.
