This is suspicious to say the least.

Is the election totally rigged, with the fake numbers they are going to give already decided in advance? And did somebody at CBS screw up and accidentally run them Friday? Notice how the figure is perfectly believable, not too big a victory, but just big enough to call it decisive.

My guess is that it is just a preliminary run through. This is routine. News organizations also have obituaries and graphics on people who haven't died yet. Same deal.

And, in any case, presidential elections are not decided by CBS news or any other news organization. Regardless of what they post on the screen, the hard vote totals are all that matter.

I think you are missing the point. The implication is that the vote totals have been pre-determined by somebody above CBS news. I suspect it was a glitch, also. 83 million is a very low total vote for a country of roughly 210 million eligible voters.

You're right that it's a low turnout number, but it could work out in that way considering the utter putridness of both candidates.
