Stripe the Stadium for OU-Notre Dame

Unite the Sooner Nation by coordinating colors Saturday night for OU-Notre Dame.
NORMAN, Okla. -- Sooner fans, the University of Oklahoma is asking you to help "Stripe the Stadium" and coordinate the display of our colors in front of a primetime, nationally-televised audience Saturday.

The OU Athletics Department is encouraging all attending the OU-Notre Dame football game to don either crimson or white depending on their seat location inside Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.

Fans located in even-numbered sections are encouraged to wear crimson-colored gear and fans in odd-numbered sections should wear white. OU students are asked to wear crimson.

All in attendance will receive a commemorative OU/Notre Dame rally towel upon entry thanks to the support of Midfirst Bank, Coca-Cola, OG&E and the OU IT Store.

Let's add to the tradition of this historic rivalry as we unite our Sooner pride and continue to be the greatest fans in college football. Kickoff is 7 p.m. Central.

This is cool. I had this thought a year or two ago. I wondered how to get it started. It's a little hokey of course, but it shows how the fans will do anything if they think it will help.

White section here, so I'll need to buy a white sweater or something. Not complaining at all, especially if our football team supports the idea and it helps motivate them. I hope it looks good on TV, but mostly I hope it gets crazy and crazy loud.

Why not put a free shirt in the seat?

That would be a lot better than handing out the "rally towel", which frankly makes me think of Willy Wildcat's "power towel". Hand the shirts out according to the section you have on your ticket.

This kind of thing reminds me of back in the day when they'd have those cards in the stands that people would hold up to say things like "Go Bruins" or "Run, Forrest, Run!" or "Stop!"

I just can't imagine having that kind of cooperation from the crowd, especially the student section, anymore.

I meant the score.

Penn State 38 Iowa 14

Once the score became 24-0 at halftime and then 31-0 and 38-0, the towels were swung with somewhat less enthusiasm and less often. One couple stopped swinging their towels when a towel hit my face and I asked them to please stop, which we very much appreciated. The other couple kept up their non-stop enthusiasm well into the fourth quarter, as Iowa scored two late touchdowns and I ducked a lot to avoid being swatted. They also left before the end of the game, well before Iowa's last touchdown made the score 38-14 in favor of Penn State.

Obviously, it's not going to turn out like that, but it just seems like gimmicks for gimmicks' sake, IMO.

People please have proper towel waving etiquette. Wave the towel in the air, but you are should be bent forward a bit so not to hit the person behind or next to you in the face.

Being alerted this far in advance it might happen. Then again..

Mostly clear, with a low around 33.
I remember Memorial Stadium turning all sorts of colors when rain hit due to all of the ponchos. People value being warm above being in a striped stadium :)

DId anyone see the marriage proposal in the student section during the K-State game at the end of the 1st quarter done with about 20 giant cards?

What percent participation you think there will be? The red areas are a given I suppose. But only 1/2 white in the white areas?
Just had a funny thought. Will the stadium be striped red and pink because of only 50% participation in the designated white sections?

I starting to think it will be better than I originally expected. It's making its way around Facebook and email for the blue hairs (gotten the link from a few of my parent friends).

The OU stores are full of white and crimson jackets, windbreakers, pullover and zip up hoodies.

I have gotten a few messages about this from people, so it may work pretty well.
