Are they a liberal paper? Do they have a beef with the Romney family? Did they get into it with Mitt during the Olympics?
Are they the major paper in town, or is there another one?
Seems weird, but maybe there's an explanation.

Google the Trib and read the editorial. They basically say that
Mitt can't be trusted, he'll say whatever he has to say to get elected.

Someone on the site responded that it is a more liberal paper, had
good things to say about the Olympics, though. Pretty damning
editorial piece, imo.

Here's a link for the lazy (http://www.sltrib.com/sltrib/opinion/55019844-82/romney-obama-state-president.html.csp) :)

In a nutshell:

In considering which candidate to endorse, The Salt Lake Tribune editorial board had hoped that Romney would exhibit the same talents for organization, pragmatic problem solving and inspired leadership that he displayed here more than a decade ago. Instead, we have watched him morph into a friend of the far right, then tack toward the center with breathtaking aplomb. Through a pair of presidential debates, Romney’s domestic agenda remains bereft of detail and worthy of mistrust.

Therefore, our endorsement must go to the incumbent, a competent leader who, against tough odds, has guided the country through catastrophe and set a course that, while rocky, is pointing toward a brighter day. The president has earned a second term. Romney, in whatever guise, does not deserve a first.

The editorial, IMHO, basically says that Romney of old would be the one they would elect, not the new puppet of the Republican Party that has lost what once made him a special leader... and as such, going to go with the lesser evil, the status quo.

I am really disappointed in both. Obama, for the last four years, Romney, for the reasons cited in this editorial. In the hopes that future third party candidates can change Oklahoma election laws that prevent most third party candidates from seeing the ballot, I may just vote for whats-his-face, knowing full well that Oklahoma will vote Romney regardless.

The Salt Lake Trib endorsed Obama in 2008 as well, but given Mitt Romney's Mormon faith, as well as his role in the 2002 Winter Olympics, there was a reasonable expecation that the editorial board might lean the other way.

The Salt Lake Trib is just one of many papers to publish presidential endorsements today. The Tennessean (of Nashville) and the Orlando Sentinel both endorsed Mitt Romney after going for Obama in 2008; the Tampa Bay Times and the Denver Post both endorsed the president, same as four years ago.

Elsewhere, The Onion endorsed John Edwards.

No mention in the Salt Lake City tribune about the jobs Obama cost the people of Utah. Probably just an innocent oversight on their part.

February 4th Withdrew areas offered for 77 oil and gas leases in Utah that could cost American taxpayers millions in lost lease bids, production royalties, new jobs and the energy needed to offset rising imports of oil and natural gas. According to a Uintah County commissioner, this prevented the creation of approximately 3,000 jobs.

February 25th Delayed the new round of oil shale research, demonstration, and development (RD&D) leases that would help advance American technology and create high-tech jobs in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah. According to a study prepared for The National Energy Technology Laboratory, over 350,000 jobs would be created by the development of our oil shale resources.

October 8th Issued a final report on the Utah oil and natural gas leases, offering only 17 of the 77 leases. In November, the Institute for Energy Research found that the Administration has leased less acreage than any other on record. (See February 4, 2009)

October 20th Announced a new round of oil shale RD&D Leases that included job-destroying variable terms, royalty rates, and lease sizes. (See February 25, 2009)

Do your part, my Congressional District already did ours - VOTE OUT YOUR INCUMBENT. Don't try to pin this on all the other districts - there's hundreds of those and there's only ONE that each voter can vote in (hopefully, please don't vote multiple times, hehe). And if you say that your other option is a dud --- YOUR FAULT for not having a better primary alternative, which, again, OUR district had, so we did. Don't pin Congress' failures all on Congress. We elected em, now we need to finish the job and un-elect them. Congressional overhaul STARTS AT HOME!

Did I throw enough catch phrases and sh!t in that response? :P

Yes, they do. Here are the 1st two comments.

"Nah not really, this video is actually pretty weak compared to Romney's. So what if it isn't true that he said the conflict in iraq wouldn't be solved by more troops. That isn't as bad as being Pro-Choice as Governor then hopping over on the Pro-Life train as soon as your name gets called to be president [Romney]. Or passing the Brady Bill then signing up for NRA. Then so what if he supported gays and civil unions but not gay marriage? That's not a flip flop, he didn't go anti-gay? "

"And thats not even bringing up the fact that ROMNEY HAS ALWAYS BELIEVED IN UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE!!! Even at the RNC they were questioning how Romney could look the president in the eyes and say I don't support the plan when its well documented he wanted universal healthcare and even somewhat showed support for obamacare. But no he's done the Ultimate pandering changed everything to fit to Republican Candidate status and asked a Tea-Party VP to join him. Same ol' Mitt."

Maybe do your research next time before cut/pasting weak drivel.

Not absolutely certain but I think The Deseret News is basically the Mormon

said The Tribune was the largest. Not that it matters that much, I just thought
it strange they would endorse Obama instead of Romney.
