View Full Version : Can UT stop the Belldozer?

In thinking what the horns might try on us, the Belldozer came to mind. I could imagine their DC loading the box and risking man coverage with no safety in an attempt to stop it. Whether justified or not, they are the only team we will face that has that much confidence in their secondary. So, can they stop the Belldozer? If they do dare us to have Bell pass, would we?

I doubt it. The thing is to get it to the Red Zone for him.

I was thinking of the middle of the field case. We have a 2nd and 1 or a 3rd and 1. Most teams concede that we will convert and make sure they have someone back in case Bell breaks through the LOS. It also gives them over the top coverage in case we try a pass which we haven't really done. In the redzone, no way we pass in this game. I could see the horns daring us to pass at mid-field though. And they probably have more power in their front 7 than any other team we will face and I could see them gambling to try to stuff the run. I hope the situation comes up early in the game so Josh can get a read on what they will do.

at some point in a game after a couple of standard belldozers, they are going to try to catch someone off guard and let Blake throw wouldnt you think. Vs horns seems like a good place to do it.

mmmmmmmm. Saunders goes on a straight-down-the-field-try-to-keep-up-with-me route and Bell just hangs the ball out about 50 yards and let's him run under it.

Not saying it would be smart or is likely to happen; but I'd sure like to see it.

Another interesting possibility, but I'll let someone else start another thread. Wonder if we'll see much of Saunders this week? I know he's been practicing, but to promote him to 1-2 team mid-week before the horn game and then rely on him seems dicey.

Whether and how much will depend on, as always with Stoops, how he's performed in practice. And from what little I've heard, he's been working diligently and has had some jaw dropping catches.

One of these times Blake is going to catch them all off guard when they least expect it, and throw that ball, and its going to be awesome. :D

Please don't run the Belldozer in the open field.

I suspect it will happen at least once.

You do realize that Bell is going, sooner or later, to break one of those, truck some unsuspecting DB and go 65 yards for a score, don't you?

BB hasn't had the best of luck doing anything other than Belldozing defenses so far. I'll settle for handling the snap and be pleased with whatever else happens from there.

Stoops was asked Monday if Bell would pass out of the Belldozer. He said probably not, but he could. Of course he's not going to tell the media, but one of these times they will throw it. I also wouldn't mind seeing him hand it off on the read once in a while. The more the defense has to read, the better the chance of picking up the 2 or 3 yards.

We tried to get cute with it last year and he threw a pick in the end
zone.

line him up as a back in the diamond. pitch it to him then he would have a run pass option

Also with Jones and Bell in at the same time, Texas would burn a time out the first time

I really don't get the gimmick. Either give the kid some meaningful time during the game so he is in the flow, or keep him out. Coming off of the bench cold in the heat of the game (see KSU) and asking him to be in-sync with the other 10 guys, especially the center leaves a lot to be desired in my book. I just don't think it is a very good idea.

Let me let you guys in on a little secret.....the Texas D really sucks. It all boils down to Texas needing to score a TD on every possession while hoping you guys hurt yourselves with a few turnovers. OU could start the Belldozer & have him run almost every down and he could go for 300 yards.

I'm waiting for a pass play in a 2nd and short situation or 3rd and short in the red zone when they bring the Belldozer package in. They've got to mix a few throws in just to keep people guessing. I know they've attempted 1 or two throws, seems like one worked, one didn't. Poor memory.

Its no gimmick. The Belldozer by FAR gives us the best chance to pick up short yardage plays. That is why he is in there.

Obviously he does because Stoops announced him as the backup QB. If Landry gets injured Bell will run the offense not Allen.

My question answered: NO

But Bell clearly got dinged on that last (4th) TD and I saw them looking at his left shoulder. But he didn't go to the locker room early, so hopefully it's nothing.

They were just scraping the longwhorn off him. No need to risk an infection. :D

Nobody likes it when you have longwhorn on your windshield....
