The piece of crap man sends out form letters to grieving families... (http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/2012/10/confirmed-obama-sent-same-form-letter-to-parents-of-all-fallen-soldiers-marines-seals/)

Yet manages a personal letter to Heavy-D's family. What a contemptuous a$$!

Bush sent personal letters...

Well to be fair, there's a lot more boys dying than when Bush was prez...

Just one more selfish act by the megalomaniac.

And to be fair, what is the history of presidents writing personal letters to the families of the fallen?

I'm aware that Abraham Lincoln once wrote the mother of a family which lost five sons in the civil war. Aside from that, whatcha got?

Made up bullsiht issue? Sounds like it.

Most used form letters. Bush did apparently write 4000 personal letters to 9/11 victims families and war casualties.

They are saying Obama did sign them personally. They aren't disputing the form letter. Bush apparently did both personal and form and previous Presidents use form letters.

I think what Midtowner is alluding to is that there are plenty of reasons to dislike Obama without all of the minor stuff so why mention it. Lots and lots of rhetoric gets thrown around that is form letter propaganda that is designed to get a response. This is why we bring up the faux rage thing.

To be honest with you....so what. The expectation that the President write the family of every dead soldier is unreasonable. Do you think FDR wrote to all the families of soldiers that died on DDay?

Comparing a president serving while we're at war where 10's to 100's of troops are dying daily/weekly to the one serving during this effed up war on terror is dumb. Ain't that right Midtowner? Besides, without your beloved media, we wouldn't know any of this ****.

I'm comparing Obama to all presidents prior. As to the claim that Bush personally wrote all of the 9/11 victims, there's quite a bit of conflicting information there. In fact, in 2003, Newsweek published that Bush's letters were identical save for the salutation and the name of the victim--that's a form letter for you Oklahoma State graduates. Rumsfeld himself confirmed he used an autopen. Prior to that, I doubt there's much evidence at all that any wartime president ever did any of this.

So what's the excuse for suddenly raising the bar?

Faux rage.

This makes you all look foolish.

Then, he gets called on it and every time you and yours go "is that all you got? You ain't got nothing better than that? Well Bush/Reagan/Eisenhower/Truman/Roosevelt did it/didn't do it. Precedent in formal matters like this is actually quite important in the presidency. Hell, if he wrote personalized letters you'd probably be criticizing him for pandering to these families, since he never actually knew the service members himself.

Just to provide context for C&C, he might not realize that calling a black person (or even a half-black person) a monkey or associating any sort of monkey-anything with them is considered racist. It used to be a widely held opinion that blacks were just a higher form of ape life. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt as to whether he intended to be racist or whether he was just attempting to troll. Of course he might surprise us and admit that he doesn't like a ni***r in the White House. We'll see.

Only if he wrote them to the brothers and mulattos and left out the white boys. Then I'd be pissed as hell. :rolleyes/:

And please spare me the lecture about precedent little grasshoppah. You are so far from snatching the pebble you should just resign yourself to saying "yes sir" and "no sir" in matters that involve adult discussion. You can't control how people perceive you except by what you say and do. If you want to make those sorts of observations, some folks, right or wrong are going to perceive that as racism. As far as monkey/curious George...

That should be game/set/match.

The point--and SCSooner and I are consistent is that this is a non-issue. It's made up. Only those who are peering through the spectacles of heavy cognitive dissonance are going to think there's anything to this whatsoever. I'm not sure about all of that formal etiquette and precedence stuff, but I am sure that this is a completely made up/non/bullsiht issue.

I heard the father interviewed today. His beef was not so much the letter, but that it was 4 months before he got around to sending it to the family.

4 months later, the family was starting to get back to as normal of an existence as you can, and then bam! heres Obama's form letter finally showing up to open all of it up again. The military commanders sent theirs to the family within a few days.

For the record, Bush wrote many personal letters, and has visited with many many more families. He still visits with families of soldiers and marines killed even to this day. He just doesn't advertise it.

The military people know what Obama and his people think of them. They are polling 70% for Romney.
