View Full Version : OK . . . Let's talk positives

No sunshine pumping and no player bashing. What are some positives that we have noted so far this season? Let's start with the D secondary. I have seen substantial improvement in both the pass coverage of our D and recognition in the back field. If you look at our stats, the secondary has been stepping up in a big way with run support and coverage down field has been improved. I don't see, so far, guys running free in the secondary the way I did in the last half of last season and tackling has been more sure. Next . . . the run game. We have, when committed to it, run the ball ball with some authority even accepting our "one hand in pocket" dedication to the shotgun. When you look at what our triplets have done when we commit to establishing the run, they have stepped up and delivered pretty consistently. Lastly, our O line has been better than I expected. When you look at the injuries and matriculation that has left us thin, they have really performed above expectations. Landry has consistently had time and runners have had some lanes.

I'm not blind, I see our problems pretty much like everybody else including some questionable coaching, but having said that, what positives can you take from three games in?

I'm pretty pleased with our D. . .relative to recent years. They may not be smothering like we had once upon a time, but they appear to be moving in the right direction.

Like you mentioned, The Bermuda Triangle in the middle D is not being exploited now. We've got some RBs with potential; Sheppard looks good, Brown a good returner; No run-backs on kickoffs.

Landry has no more eligibility after this year. (I didn't bash, per se... just noting a positive for the program.) :D

Defensive is much improved, and can become elite if we add a few stars.

DD Williams, Jefferson, Colvin, Shephard, Brown, Stills...thats about it so far

The defensive secondary, specifically Hurst and Jefferson.

Sterling Shepard - Is there a player on the team that exemplifies being a Sooner more than Sterling? I don't think so.

Kenny Stills - So far, ability to catch the football.

Gabe Ikard - Even though the o-line is getting heat, he's been solid. Not a beast, but a solid player.

Justin Brown - Like Ikard, a solid player. If he gets any blocking on punt returns, he's going to be hard to keep bottled up!

Michael Hunnicut - So far, so good.

Mike Stoops - It may be too early to tell about his defense, having his fire on the sidelines is a positive.

Ticket prices will be cheaper to Ou/Texas and I just saved a bundle on big 12 tickets and Nc arrangements :)

guess I'm not super sold on the D...especially pass coverage. OU hasn't seen a pass first team yet. I hold judgement out til TT.

Guess ko returns/and ko D has been better.

I kept wondering if the video board had been hacked and they were going to show porn. That would have been almost as bad as losing to Kansas Aggy.

Finch is not going to wear down late in the season from the heavy workload.
