I saw our governor speak yesterday and he had a statistic that was really scary.

There 1.3 billion jobs in the entire world. There are 3 billion people looking for jobs. We are in a war for talent and price competition with the rest of the world.

Let's see, there are 7 billion total, round numbers.

25% or 1.75 are too young to work.
20% or 1.4 are too old.

that leaves 3.85 of working age.

take away his 1.3 and you've got 2.55 'out of work'. Really? 66% roughly, unemployment? Not possible. He must be ignoring subsistence farming. Or, alternatively, maybe he's right. If so, we need only wait 30 days and the out of work will all starve and we'll have resolved the problem. There's no way two and a half billion people are simply standing around waiting to die.

We are, however, in open competition with the rest of the world. Always have been, always will be. The game just works faster now.

Don't expect those terry cloth weaving jobs in Carolina to 'come back' anytime soon.

The problem with our current economy is that the real jobs that will improve people's lives are in the technology sector but that takes an educated work force. Right now we have large segments of our population that do not value education and achievement and in some communities it is so bad that individuals who do seek to become educated and attempt to achieve are ridiculed.
