"Brent Venables (6), Clemson defensive coordinator. In January he was given a multiyear deal reportedly worth about $800,000 per season – rock-star coordinator money – to tighten up a unit that finished 71st nationally last year in total defense. After being gouged for 667 yards by Florida State on Saturday, the current Clemson defense ranks 95th in total defense."

AS some one else said in defense of Mike here, hes having to play some one else's recruits

Yall cant Defend one coach and then hang another using different guidelines

He gave up about that many yards using his own recruits last year. Twice.

He didn't give up 600+ years to FSU last year.

BV not quite getting the job done? Color me as something less than surprised!

No, but he did against Baylor and Taco Tech.

He used someone else's players when he got here the first time and did pretty well.

Who showed up on the sidelines for OU starting with TTech?

The D was very good last year until something crazy happened during TTech week. Then it was awful the rest of the way.

I kinda remember our 1999 defense being pretty mediocre. The 2000 defense is a little iffy since it was 1/2 theres and 1/2 Blakes. Even so, he finished 2nd place in the recruiting wars on 3 of the starters who signed with Blake (Callens/Calmus/Fisher)...

I'd like to have Clemson's offense. Or at least just Sammy Watkins.

Another interesting point to ponder, if Mike were at Clemson.

Than BV would prolly still be here? Not a welcome thought!

...and I'd love to have Sammy Watkins, but unless he can stand in the pocket and throw it to himself I don't know how much it would help?

Sammy Watkins also fits in with our tradition of missing games due to suspension :(

Was afraid someone would bring that up. Dang, he can play, though.

Metoyer was rated slightly higher than Watkins by Rivals out of high school. Hopefully Metoyer will turn out just as good.
