Twice a year, spring and fall I get to sneez'n and snot'n like crazy. I've been told it's ragweed and cedar pollen. Whatever it is, it stomps my *** and usually go's on long enough to turn into a sinus infection.

I know I'm not the only one with this problem. Anybody found a good OTC/Prescribed drug for this? I've tried Allegra, Clariten, Zyrtec and Benadryl. None of those seem to work except the Benadryl, which makes me feel like I drank a quart of OVJ and ate a bag of cotton balls, so that's out.

Wife has allergies pretty bad...tried a lot of different stuff. Right now
fexofenadrine hydrochloride is what's working for her...gets it at Target.
She has high blood pressure, too, so she had to be careful about what
she takes that doesn't interfere. Stuff works, cause if she runs out then
she really has a hard time. Good luck..allergies are miserable!

Oh, it's generic and OTC...

Get tested and try allergy injections.
Prescription Singulair along with an antihistamine works fairly well.
Prescription nasal steroids work great.

You can take any or all of the above. You have to see what works well for you.

I never had sinus problem till I moved to Hawaii. Lots of mold there.

Now, when I return to Okieville the ragweed does a number on me.

At least I get to enjoy the high humidity of Hawaii. Keeps nasal passages moister.

I didn't develop allergies until the early 90's, my dad developed them about the same time. I found that most of the former prescription allergy meds (now OTC) would work for a max of 6 months for me, then I would have to switch to something else. Zyrtec-D is the only one that I found that works reasonably well enough to stick with it.

My allergies were better when I moved from OKC to Austin, for a few years then the allergen hell that is Austin started. The cedar season didn't bother me for the first 5 years, after that it became miserable. Things have been somewhat better in Denver but still bothered by them, a bit more lately.

I double up the Zyrtec this time of year (twice a day) and use benadryl at bedtime when I feel a headache coming on. This gets me by fairly well.

I have it all the time. I'm allergic to cats (I have 4) and pine trees (I live in the middle of the worlds largest Ponderosa Pine forest).

I've been on all of them at one time or another. Usually back before they became OTC.

fexofenadine (Allegra) is the strongest one you'll find that wont make you drowsy. Grab the 180mg variety. They're supposed to be one a day, but depending on your body mass (I weigh about 200 lbs) you can get away with taking two a day for a few days. If that's not strong enough for what's bothering you, it's time to go see an allergy specialist.

Walgreens has a easy to use one that comes with packs you dissolve in the water. Its called Neilmed. I use to have horrible allergy/sinus problems until I had that sinus surgery many many years ago. I also pulled up all my carpet to the original wood, redid the floors and added some stone tile. I also cut down all the big cottonwood trees in my yard and re landscaped with allergy friendly trees. I was on a mission. :O I haven't had an episode since, but when I was having troubles with it, I never left town without packing my Neilmed and some packets.
