Blake's fumble was as bad or worse than any of LJ's whoopsies. This is an offensive issue altogether. Why can't anyone get open?

EatLeadCommie
9/22/2012, 08:23 PM
Blake's fumble was bad... He was also straight off the bench. LJ gave them 7 points, missed an easy td pass, and nearly cost us 3 more with a dropped int. inexcusable for a 4 yr starter. Brain dead is an understatement

OU offense is the suck. I wish they would get rid of this "hurry up to the line and wait" offense. Landry Jones is like 4" PVC pipe he can produces lots of volume (yards) but can't handle pressure without bursting.

I was hoping Landry was over those bonehead plays. I know he's a good QB, but at times he looks just like the kid that came in when Sam was hurt.

he's a great athlete

but he can't throw the ball until he sees a man wide open.

sometimes that gets him pressured

he needs to be able to trust his receivers to get separation as the play develops

THAT my friends is the IT factor

Stoops needs to move on. We need new blood. And this is one of the first times I've thought this. If I was in the stadium tonight, I would've Boo'd this performance. After a bye week???? WTF??? We looked like garbage!!!

First OU quarterback under Stoops to lose two home games.

Last year we could blame the defense for Tech coming in and spanking us. This year it is all on Landry Jones. I will never be so happy to see an OU quarterback graduate in my life.

I've been calling him "OUr Romo" for a while now.

It is rather absurd to compare Jones to Romo. As many mistakes as Romo makes, he is capable of hitting long pass players, and can run the two minute drill very well at times. Landry can't do either.

Actually he's a terrible athlete that happens to be a big tall dude that can throw the football pretty well. Athlete he sure as hell ain't.

It's as though Landry peaked in that final stretch of games in the 2010 season. Remember how clutch he was in Stoolwater, even scrambling for a first down at one point? And then the poise in the comeback win in the CCG against Nebraska? I thought, "yeah, he's figured it out. This is our QB of the future. I just hope he stays as long as he can." I definitely never would have imagined that in his SR year he'd be to blame in any way for a loss like this. Costly and untimely injuries? Maybe. Bad defense? Possibly. A superior opponent? Sure. But not Landry Jones, the (all but) four year-starter at QB.

I really don't know what happened. Sure, losing Broyles to injury and the NFL didn't help, but . . . I've seen guys regress due to injury and age, but how Landry could come so close to putting it all together and then just . . . fizzle out? It's mystifying. I want so badly for him to succeed, but remarkably, I have almost no confidence that he will in any given situation.

Frustrating, in a word.

I disagree. If we can't get a stop on 3rd and 11 with the game on the line, we would not have gotten the ball back with 5 more times out.

He had it for the FSU game last year too. And has steadily regressed ever since when it comes to facing pressure. He had really good games last year following FSU (Texas, KSU, aTm). But when a team decided to get in his face he just melted down. And it has continued with UTEP, for god's sake, and now KSU.

I have always believed that Landry was a phenomenal quarterback when things went right. If the protection works, and the receivers run good routes, he is one of the best ever.

When those things don't happen, his performance rapidly breaks down.

SCOUT
9/23/2012, 12:38 AM
I really believe that the Tony Romo comparisons are accurate, Tony's ability to elude defenders as the obvious exception

EatLeadCommie
9/23/2012, 01:47 AM
God what I wouldn't give for a Romo. Romo at least can make plays with his feet.

Landry is just not made to be a QB for OU and to deal with all the pressure that entails. Simple as that. The loss of Broyles last year exposed him badly. In his first 2 1/2 years when Broyles was getting YAC out the yinyang and padding LJ's numbers, everybody thought he'd be great. But it was obvious that Broyles was his crutch. Even when LJ showed signs of not being a full-on retard last year, he was still focusing in on Ryan, and to his detriment.

But even I did not think that he would actually regress this year. He is flat out terrible. God it's not like he was pressured a lot tonight. He just felt pressure and became an idiot. If he has "it", it's because those letters are included in the word idiot.

The only good thing about tonight is I think he realized that he can rely on Shepard. Shepard is the next Broyles. He needs to become Landry's Broyles.
