I got my a copy in the mail yesterday and finished reading it a
little while ago. Best I can tell, the Pentagon has no reason to
get concerned about any classified info. There are some detailed
descriptions of some SEAL missions that the Pentagon probably
didn't want out, about the Capt. Phillips rescue (Maersk Alabama
ship's captain). Also wrote briefly that SEALs were involved in
the capture of Noriega.

Interesting read about some "grunt" missions, but of course, the
big one about Bin Laden. Really detailed, if accurate, the SEALs
are extremely "proficient" with firearms.

For those of you on the right, you'll be pleased with the last part
of the book where the author's political views come to the fore.
Writing about how quickly the public found out about the details,
I don't think the White House leaked much at all. I think most of
the leaks came from up the chain of command of those in the know.

Oh, don't pay full price...you can get it for $5.00 plus shipping at
Newsmax.com...

I think the issue was that it details SpecOps operations. They didn't want any detailed information getting out.

8x, I've seen movies that were more detailed. Ever watch the TV
show The Unit? Same stuff. Besides, nearly all that he wrote about
had already been in the public. Ludlum and Clancy novels have more
SpecOps details.

If the author is truthful, most of the proceeds will go to organizations
like the Wounded Warrior Project.

Well, it looks like instead of the Wounded Warrior Foundation getting that money....others will force the Author to use some or quite a bit of it defending his right to write the book even if he is wrong in selling it. Of course I guess he could also just allow them to prosecute him, toss him behind bars and allow all proceeds to go to the WWF.

I find it hard to know what the right thing is as I understand both positions and notice that anything that has to do with OBL seems to be cursed with problems if it has anything to do with money. I think that I have seen another man as truly evil and disturbed as was Hitler, Hirohito, McViegh, Nichols, Gaddafi, Saddam....the list is pretty long now...

I mentioned Hitler and Hirohito only because his legacy has had an affect on my life even though I wasn't alive when he was. I'm sure there are plenty of people I missed and many that deserve mention but I hope you get my point.

I think the biggest issue was that the Ops member made himself public and then penned a book. In reality, Special Ops folks have been advising Hollywood for decades.

Is it a good read overall (don't care about his political stance)?

The only thing that irks me is that the guy made himself public for this. If he is giving the entire proceeds to the WWF, then I don't understand his motivation (not that I ever really did). I can't help but think it's a "look at me" move, and that breaks the code of any Special Ops group. Maybe it was a way to raise easy money for the WWF? Not sure we'll ever really know.

Didn't he use a fake name to write it? Wasn't he in disguise for that interview? His real name was leaked from somewhere else as I understood it.
Also, a ton of video games have more operations info than the book.

He stated at the outset that he wanted to "set the record straight". I
believe I have an understanding of "the fog of war" stuff that comes out.
He states up front that it is based on his recollections and he has changed
names, etc. I'm quite sure that what he "remembers is how it was". My
question is how did he remember in so much detail? Yes, I think it is
an interesting read, more because of some of the background that he
provided about training, other less glittery missions and the aftermath
of just wanting to be unkown and keep doing his job. The biggest that
I got out of it is that these are extremely proud, confident, trusting in
their buddy, a$$ kicking warriors for whom this nation and all its citizens
should be eternally grateful.

He used a pen name, tried to hide his identity and, according to him, tried
to set the record straight. It seems to me that he wanted to take all the
political spin out of it and tell what really happened. At the end of his story
he acknowledged that the higher ups weren't going to let that happen.

Should he have done what he did? Don't know, but I feel a little better
informed, if it is accurate, and, by God, I'm so grateful that he and his
group is on our side!

He did use a pen name, I really don't know how his real identity was discovered. Like I said above, Special Ops folks have advised Hollywood for decades, I would put video games in that category.

Interesting. I'll have to check it out.
