View Full Version : Anyone familiar with the HBO show, The Newsroom?

While looking at something on Youtube, I saw another video with the title "The most honest three minutes and a half minutes of television ever". Curious, I clicked on it, and it showed what it says is the opening sequence of an HBO show, The Newsroom.

When asked why America is the greatest country in the world at some function, one of the panelists proceeds to tell the audience why American is NOT the greatest country in the world anymore. He also slaps down both the left and right at the same time.

A little bit melodramatic, but he sure makes some good points. Particularly, I think, about some of the great men that built this country. Sometimes, its seems like these great men now are lumped into the un-cool "old white men" category that all the smart mouths of today like to snicker at.

I wish I could embed, but it just never works for me.

Why you cant embed a Vid?

That was a good start to the series. However, after that, the Newsroom was an hour long hate-fest on the tea party and Obama spin, intermingled with some of the most horribly written and acted love quadrangles ever brought to celluloid.

This^

It is literally a commercial for one of our political party's, disguised by attempting to seem credible by making the main character a member of the other.

Continuously insults my intelligence.

In addition, the blonde that everyone is in love with? Seriously? WTF?

OK, here's how you do it. The important thing to know for this is that you only need PART of the URL from youtube to make the embed work. In the case of your video there's a couple things to keep in mind. First let's take a look at the URL you copied out of your browser:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16K6m3Ua2nw&playnext=1&list=PL1D3B079F4AB9C465&feature=results_video

You'll see that all youtube videos have the same thing at the beginning of the URL. They all have the

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=

part. This part can be ignored when embedding videos on SoonerFans.com

Next, after the = sign, you'll see a string of numbers and letters. There will be 11 characters there. This is the important bit. You'll need that part (and only that part) for embedding youtube vids here. Everything between the first = and the first &. In this case it's the 16K6m3Ua2nw part. The rest of the URL can safely be ignored.

When you type it into the comment box, it will look like this:

16K6m3Ua2nw

(go ahead, and copy/paste that into a comment box and you'll see how it works)

Another tip. If you go directly to a video from a search either in google or youtube, the 11-digit code will be the very last part of the URL, makes it easier to find and copy out. For this video, if you search directly for it the URL will look like:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16K6m3Ua2nw

So. What we have here is the simple way to embed youtube videos on SF.com. Remember, all you need is

1). The 11-digit code in URL for the video between the = and the & (or just after the = if there is no &)
2). The 11-digit code tags

The end result?

16K6m3Ua2nw

YWIA.

What was inaccurate about what it said about the Tea Party?

Everything. I think we discussed at length earlier.

Everything. I think we discussed at length earlier.

Everything? Specifically? I Googled it and while Tea Party leaning publications were whining about Newsroom being too rough with them, I think the program does a pretty good job skewering Tea Party personalities like Michelle Bachmann. If you choose spokespersons such as Bachmann, you deserve what's coming to you.

IIRC, the whole rebuttal argument to the American Taliban proposition is that the Tea Party doesn't officially stand for anything at all except for some nebulous concept of smaller government and lower taxes. I don't think that rebuttal has much basis in reality.

Whatever you say slick. Newsroom is nothing more than a (D) propaganda machine and most idiots have fallen for it.

How about some specifics?

Go ahead and show where anything the protagonist on the show has said about the Tea Party is a lie.

Facts aren't partisan...unless they're Romney facts (he won't let his campaign be dictated by fact checkers).

We could start listing the examples, however, I'm pretty sure someone with glitter on their anus is just going to see what they want to see. I'm happy you like the show...not a real big surprise.

Eh, I looked it up on the internet. The creator is Aaron Sorkin, of West Wing fame. Appears to be an ardent Obama supporter. At a recent fundraiser Obama praised him so highly it even left some reporters cringing:

"Aaron Sorkin, who writes the way every Democrat in Washington wished they spoke. (Laughter and applause.) Aaron, thank you."

Could be that everything he says is the truth, but I might still doubt the sincerity of the source of his information.

I did not like the show. Very preachy and the dialogue seemed a bit contrived. I quit watching it after the second episode.

The best political show on TV is Boss. Kelsey Grammer should win an Emmy. The added benefit is the blond on the show shows some awfully nice tatas.

Lisa Olivia Munn was born in Oklahoma City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma_City), Oklahoma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oklahoma). She is of Chinese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_people) descent on her mother's side (though her mother was raised in Vietnam (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vietnam))[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivia_Munn#cite_note-4) and of German (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_people) and Irish (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_people) descent on her father's.[5] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivia_Munn#cite_note-5) When Munn was two, her mother married her second husband, a man in the United States Air Force (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Air_Force). Although the family relocated many times, Munn was predominantly raised in Tokyo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tokyo), Japan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japan),[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivia_Munn#cite_note-about-3)[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivia_Munn#cite_note-G4-6) where the military stationed her stepfather. During this time, she appeared in a number of local theater productions, and later became a model within the Japanese fashion industry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fashion_industry).[7] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivia_Munn#cite_note-Ask-7) Her parents divorced and she moved back to Oklahoma, where she attended Putnam City North High School (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Putnam_City_North_High_School) for her junior and senior years and where she was a contemporary of Hinder (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hinder) bassist Mike Rodden (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mike_Rodden_(musician)), future Oklahoma state senator David Holt (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Holt_(politician)) and author Aaron Goldfarb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_Goldfarb).[8] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivia_Munn#cite_note-8)[9] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivia_Munn#cite_note-9) She also attended the University of Oklahoma (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Oklahoma), majoring in journalism and minoring (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_minor) in Japanese and dramatic arts.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olivia_Munn#cite_note-about-3)

I kept getting the feeling they were trying to rewrite history a bit and that even though they could insert little possibilities like a Source in Egypt they were trying to protect....it was just a kind of trauma and drama of what we might have lived through if we watched Politics and news 24/7.

If just started to seem pretty repetitive. I did like the idea of them trying to kill the coverage on the Child Killer in Florida.
