LINCOLN, Neb. -- Nebraska coach Bo Pelini left Saturday's game against Arkansas State by ambulance after falling ill on the sideline in the first half.
A member of the Nebraska medical staff was seen checking Pelini's pulse in the first half, but he continued on the sideline until halftime. Pelini didn't come out with the team for the third quarter.
The Cornhuskers led Arkansas State 28-3 at half. Defensive coordinator John Papuchis took over as acting head coach.

I hope it was the flu, which he will recover from shortly, but he spreads it to all of the players (who will also recover shortly). That will cement the failure of this season for them.

my wife is a husker so we watched the game - he looked "ok" in the first half- just a little puny - but lord, that is ALL the female play by play announcer talked about in the second half- they beat that topic TO DEATH - even sent the sideline reporter to all 3 hospitals in the area trying to find out where Pelini was at.....really stupid imo

i'm not sure why they went to the hospital - did they think the admitting staff was going to escort them to the examination room for an interview - or even confirm he was there?

I felt bad for Joey Galloway - former Buckeye and NFL all pro receiver - doing the color call - there were times when he went literally minutes without saying a word

awkward broadcast

Pelini said in a statement from the hospital after the game that he was doing fine.

''They ran some precautionary tests on me and everything checked out fine'' Pelini said. ''I plan to be back at work tomorrow. I'm proud of the way our coaching staff and team responded.''

I dont know what these coaches are trying to prove, coaching with the flu, Meyer almost killing himself...I understand wanting to work hard but you have to take care of yourself sometimes too

i figured he ate a puppy or kitten and it just didnt settle right with him

the husker nation has a love hate relationship with Bo - they hate his antics and rants on the sidelines - but love his passion...they go from being completely embarrassed to patting him on the back

So...has the media pressured Bo into signing a HIIPA release so his physician can give out a press release yet?

The gestation period for that is around 3 to 5 days, so come Tuesday or Wednesday, I hope we don't hear about a bunch of bed ridden huskers.

Or he swallowed his bubble gum and it went down the wrong way. He was really chomping down in the first half.

How does an NCAA head coach leave a game at the half in the back of an ambulance and be okay to work the next morning?

Pelini was taken by ambulance to a hospital while his Cornhuskers were in the middle of a 42-13 victory over Arkansas State. He said in a statement released through the athletic department that he underwent precautionary tests that "checked out just fine" and that he planned to work Sunday. Nebraska spokesman Keith Mann said Pelini was out of the hospital Saturday night.

How is that confusing? Have you never known anyone to go from feeling disgustingly sick to pretty good in the span of 24 hours?

Huskers in general are an odd bunch. They try to be happy and nice fans, but it's much easier to be happy and nice when you're winning multiple national titles in the 90s and actually ranked in a non-pity spot by week 3 or in the national title discussion beyond week 2. Whoops.

As such, they probably are nice enough to wish Bo a speedy recovery, but not so nice that they are not secretly wishing that Dr. Tom would stop being AD and start being coach again. Irrelevance in college football doesn't suit Huskers very well
