NORMAN -- Oklahoma forward Renae Cuellar put home the game's only goal to give the Sooners a 1-0 win over No. 3 Oklahoma State in The Oklahoma Farm Bureau Bedlam Series on Friday in front of a record crowd at John Crain Field.

The win was the first for Oklahoma (4-2-1) over Oklahoma State (6-1) in the last 11 games of the series, with its last victory coming in a 3-2 decision in 2005.

"We obviously defended very well," said OU Head Coach Matt Potter. "We knew if we found an outlet (on the offensive end) we could put something together. It all came together tonight."

A record crowd of 2,475 fans crammed the stands and the berms and watched Cuellar make a run right through the middle of the Oklahoma State defense, sending a shot from the top of the box into the bottom right corner of the goal.

The goal was Cuellar's team-leading fifth of the season and it led to the highest-ranked opponent defeated in program history (No. 6 Texas A&M in 2010 Big 12 semifinals).

Oklahoma senior goalkeeper Kelsey Devonshire notched her first shutout of the season (15th of career) on six saves and gave OSU its first blanking of 2012. The last time OU shut out OSU was in 2003 in a scoreless tie.

"It means a lot," said Devonshire on the win. "It means we have a lot to look forward to and a lot to build off. We know we can beat a top ranked team. It was an awesome win."

Next up, the Sooners host Oral Roberts (2-3-1) on Sunday, Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. CT at John Crain Field. The game will be aired on a tape delay at 8 p.m. on Fox Sports Oklahoma Plus.

Yep, I was there cheering our Sooner team on to victory! It started lightning during the scoreless first half and then again in the second half. I wondered if they were going to have to postpone it. It started to rain with about 12 minutes left in the match with OU up 1-0 though it let up fairly quickly. What a great victory!
