I actually hoped we would drop further. The players say the right thing that "the rankings don't matter." But we all know that if they have even a small measure of pride in how they are playing, the rankings do matter to the players on some level.

Not that they should need additional motivation... but it just doesn't hurt at this juncture.

Why didn't south carolina drop? They won by 3 points against an unranked team... with the help of an overlooked pass interference call deep on their side of the field to end Vandy's last drive.

... oh... I know. Vandy is an SEC team. So we're probably lucky SC didn't move into the top 5.

Outrageous. Oklahoma beat the best team El Paso, TX had to offer to the tune of 24-7. The Sooners should have moved up 1 or 2 spots, since everyone else was too afraid to play UTEP on the road in the first game of the season. Oh well, it will all shake out at season's end when UTEP finishes the season 12-1.

holy cow...6 games against top 20 opp...IF we get through that undefeated there is a God! I don't think we'll blow but 1...maybe 2. Tough games ahead.

I guess he media really is anti-OU. :P

I would have dropped OU quite a bit more even discounting "first game" anomalies.

After the injuries along the O line, I figured we were somewhere around #10. I can't say I was hoping we would drop to that spot, but I think it may be a little more reflective of where we are at this point in the season.

an opening game on the road against a decent mid-major late at night for the first game of the season knowing the injuries and setbacks already for Oklahoma plus the overall schedule is why OU didn't drop considerably. In reality the score should have been say, 45-0 but there were some missed opportunities that could have been easy touchdowns. The score could have also been 24-9 or 24-16. 24-9 would still be a decent final. 24-16 would have dropped OU more. A special teams mistake (common for OU) is what gave UTEP its only score.

OU has a lot to work on and I think the coaches and mesia members are seeing that and showing some respect for OU. The talent is there, the leadership is there and the coaching is there. Now it needs to mold well against FAMU and then take a week off to really come together and battle Kansas State.

I remain optimistic about this team. I am more confident in this team right now than I was last year at this time when fully healthy.

performance on agaisnt UTEP.

It does some like some of the pollsters did their homework and didn't just rank OU based on the media discussions. I can't say I'm more optimistic than I was last year at this time, because I think that we had a very good team before all the injuries, but I am optimistic about this team. I really think we compete for the conference title this year.

I think 5th is fair. We beat FSU last year and while they're better, I'm not sure they're better than us. Doesn't matter much, I reckon, but it's still interesting to see what the press thinks.
