View Full Version : Do you have a sneaker preference?

When you buy sneakers (I've always called them "tennis shoes"), are you loyal to a particular brand?

When I was 12 or 13, everyone wanted a pair of Nikes. Back then, there was literally one pair available (white canvas with a light blue swoosh). I finally got a pair, and was hooked on Nike. I'm not sure they are really any better than Adidas, Brooks, New Balance, etc., but it's all I've worn. I even started my kids in Nike when they got their first pair of shoes.

My oldest son (17) isn't a Nike loyalist. He'll wear Vans, Converse, or whatever he finds stylish at the moment. My youngest son is over-the-top Nike.

I saw today that Nike has introduced a $300+ pair of shoes (I think Lebron is pitching them). Seems absolutely crazy, but I'm sure it'll sell.

I always had the white leather with the red swoosh.

But in the 80's I switched to Reeboks. Pretty much the same style every two years or so.

Well, it aint the $315 Lebron James version, thats fer sure. I wear
Nike cross trainers and avoid anything that looks like a regular
price. I watch for sales, keep my receipt and hang out to dry the
retailer who is ALWAYS on sale...Jus sayin'...

I lied. Your post reminded me of a pair of white leather (with red logo) Reeboks I had in the 80's. They were high tops and I thought I looked awesome in them. Probably looked like a moron because it was "cool" not to tie them to the top.

The new Lebrons are pretty sick. They have motion sensors that record how much you jump and run, and how high and different things, so you can track your progress.

Myself, I love the Nike Free's. They're so comfortable, that I could never go back to an arched shoe.

I used to do New Balance. Nike's have always been too narrow. My last several pair have been Under Armour. If you haven't tried them, you should.

Usually not a fan of linking Bleacher Report, but this one has some fun images of really ugly shoes. (http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1118727-the-50-ugliest-basketball-shoes-ever-made)

Back when kobe was with adidas, they created the ugliest shoes ever together:
http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-U9dvaeN6j3U/T99K2va7MpI/AAAAAAAAAPw/zq3lOAZ1ZS4/s1600/ugliest-shoe%203ever-adidas-kobe-ii.jpg

I wear whatever nowadays. I've mostly gone with Nike in the past. While some familes at my school tried to save money, my mom didn't skimp on shoes, probably because she knew that department store brands fell apart quickly

I'm all for comfort. I always have Keds and Polos for summer wear. I have a little higher instep than normal and my feet are a size 7, a little bit wider, but not wide enough to buy a C or a wide size. I use to like K Swiss, but their product went from superior to inferior. The price hasn't gone up so maybe thats why. Nikes are too narrow for me.

I love Skechers now. The last pair I bought are so cute. They're really comfortable too. It's as if they took mold castings of my feet and special made them for me. I'm going to go on line to see if I cant find an identical pair.

Recently got NB, I really like them. I used to wear Saucony, but it seemed like they didn't hold up as long as they used to...
I have a pair of Puma Nightfoxes that are almost 2 years old. They have held up ridonkulously well, but they're cool-cold weather trail shoes.
Puma or Adidas for golf shoes.

I've always been a Footjoy guy for golf shoes. It's just out of habit, I guess. And to be honest, I've never really had a comfortable pair of golf shoes. I'm gonna try out something different next year.

About three weeks ago, I got a pair of Nike Free Runs. They are the best shoe I've ever worn. Now, if I could get them in a dress shoe I'd be set.

New Balance - not any worse than the others & better than some. Mainly, I buy them because they are still mostly manufactured in the good ol' USA.

The dildonic noob was right. Under Armor shoes don't get a lot of good reviews from shoe nerds. Glad Dean likes his. The UA cleats are ok though.

Asics and Brooks are at the forefront when it comes to running shoes. I like Adidas style a lot.

Heh.

Here's my deal: How many of y'all are runners? Not 20-minutes on the treadmill plodders, I'm talking about serious 20-25+ mile a week hoofers. People that run a bunch of say...sub 8 minute miles back-to-back? That's what I thought.

If you're serious about your running, Asics/Brooks/Saucony/etc. are probably the best shoe for you. If you're a plodder, Nike/Adidas/NB/Under Armour are probably best for you. I personally like Under Armour because A) they're comfy for me, B) they've held up surprisingly well under the abuse I've given them, and finally C) I like the way they look. The ones I've owned are all gray with crimson trim which blends nicely with my numerous Sooner ensembles...
