An October Surprise? (Iran vs Israel)

So I guess it boils down to:

Israel wants to hit Iran.
Before the election would somehow ensure US aid.
Would an Israeli attack help an Obama re-election?
This is not desirable from an Israeli POV, but secondary to survival of the state.

So latest round of hand-wringing/saber-rattling has begun again. One of these days you gotta believe it won't just be more huffing and puffing...

So what do my SF bros think? Would an attack affect the US prez election? How so? Will this latest actually come to blows, or will it blow over again?

An attack would affect the election. In what way would depend on the
official reaction by the sitting administration. I think this is more than
saber rattling on the Isreali's part. Netanyahu wants to do it and I am
quite certain that Isreali command fire control has mapped out a pattern
of attack that will be devastating and effective. However, if it is not a
complete knockout first strike then the Middle East will erupt into a huge
fire ball that will reverberate in Washington, London, Paris, Berlin, Moscow,
Bejing and every capital of NATO.

There are two US carrier battle groups in the region now....

If we could just sit and watch this happen without the turmoil in the world financial markets, it might be fun. Let everyone else stay on the sidelines. Like Israel or not, they would tie the Iranians in knots.

I think this is a lot about nothing. Iran isn't going to attack Israel. Their leadership knows it will be their last day on earth as a nation if that happened.
