I read a story in yesterday's WSJ about federal funds spent on streetcars. Since about 2009, $450 million for streetcars in 12 cities. Maybe $450,000,000 doesn't sound like so much these days, but it IS almost half a billion dollars. To me, that still sounds like a lot of money considering the streetcars cover only a few miles in 12 cities in the USA.
Apparently, a streetcar in downtown Portland Ore. was a big hit, so other cities think it might work for them, too. That's fine. If the cities want to build them, they should. Kansas City is planning a 2.2 mile streetcar line for $100 million with no federal money. If that's how they want to spend their money, go ahead. At this point in time, I would disagree with the federal government spending that kind of taxpayer money for such limited local projects.

So, the tone of the WSJ article was negative, but did not mention Obama by name:
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10000872396390444900304577579360844409848.html

This article from a place called Clean Technica is very supportive, and gives all the credit to Obama:

And finally, the Cato Institute says that Portland's claims that its $103 million 4-mile streetcar has generated $3.5 billion of economic development is all bunk.

You know the last thing the federal government wants to do is get more mass transit in our country.

and as usual you are misstating what they said - imagine that, a rightwinger lying about what somone said.

$3.5 billion has been invested within two blocks of the streetcar alignment.

Exactly what did I misstate or lie about? I provided links to 3 sources detailing the issue, and drew no conclusion.

I'm serious, I challenge you. Show where I misstated or lied, and be specific. You, as usual, are the one lying. That is why I seldom acknowledge your posts. So go ahead. Show me. Put up or shut up. Go.

If you are gullible enough to believe a streetcar is the cause of all that development, fine. Believe whatever you read in a brochure. In 2000 1% of commuters used the streetcar. In 2010, it was still 1%. Walkers and biker riders went from 2 and 3% to 5 and 9% during that time
If you support paying $450 in federal tax dollars so 12 cities can have some streetcars, say it. I don't. Is that alright?

Portland's streetcar is probably great, they built it, thats fantastic. Let any city that wants to build one, just don't ask the ladies at the Piggly Wiggly in Alabama to chip in for it. Or me.

Well, ICT, I figured you'd somehow slink away. Some good will come from it, though. I'm going to try out the forum "ignore list" and hope it works.
(Forum Actions-Edit Profile-Edit Ignore list, on the left)

You are an original, though; shooting off whatever "dribble" you can spit out. Never seen anyone who's only enjoyment in life is annoying people. So much so you get banned from a silly message board, like some kind of a middle school outcast.
Go on back to whatever you do in Wichita to help out the Koch regime. What is it about Wichita and these guys that get some disgusting gratification from anonymously tormenting others?

Who is slinking away, I'm right here.

1. And finally, the Cato Institute says that Portland's claims that its $103 million 4-mile streetcar has generated $3.5 billion of economic development is all bunk.

the study said $3.5 billion has been invested within two blocks of the streetcar alignment. They did not say it was due to the streetcar.

2. A Streetcar Named Obama

You are trying to link these to Obama - you said yourself So, the tone of the WSJ article was negative, but did not mention Obama by name:
but yet you still named the thread A Streetcar Named Obama

Two lies - you just don't like being busted on lying.

You just keep showing your ignorance and stupidity. You go off on a rant on me and can't even get your facts straight. There is no inbred, dumbass hillbilly from Alabama cipping in for sh!t across this country because Alabama gets BACK FROM THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT $1.61 FOR EACH DOLLAR THEY SEND TO THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. Frankly blue states are sick and tired of people like you bitching about federal spending when we are sending YOU dollars!

On second thought, stick it up your ignorant @ss.

Or maybe the ultra conservative right wing operator after all. Stir up resentment against liberals. Seems more likely than making such a buffoon of yourself.
