It reads like a 12 year old kid stating opinions as facts, but it's an interesting list anyway...

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/25-best-players-oklahoma-sooners-football-history-155300109--ncaaf.html

The Oklahoma Sooners are ranked the No. 1 college football program in the modern era, with seven national championships and 43 conference titles to the university's credit. During that time, five players won the Heisman Trophy, 64 players won national awards, and the Sooners put 153 first-team All-Americans on the field.

Here are the top 25 players in Oklahoma Sooner football history:

1: Lee Roy Selmon, DT (1972-1975): One of the most dominant defensive lineman to ever play college football, with OU winning two straight national championships in 1974 and 1975.

2: Brian Bosworth, LB (1984-1986): The heart and soul of the dominating national championship defense that defeated Penn State in the 1985 Orange Bowl. The "Boz" is the only player in NCAA history to win two Butkus Awards.

3: Billy Sims, RB (1975-1979): Heisman Trophy winner and the all-time rushing leader in OU history with 4,118 yards.

4: Adrian Peterson, RB (2004-2006): Rushed for 1,900 yards his freshman year, finishing second on the Heisman Trophy ballot.

5: Roy Williams, S (1999-2001): Won the Nagurski Trophy for nation's best defensive player and the Jim Thorpe Award, and was a driving force on the 2000 national championship team. Texas fans will never forget this moment.

6: Keith Jackson, TE (1984-1987): Named OU Offensive Player of the Century, he was the total package at tight end and a key player on the 1985 national championship team.

7: Tony Casillas, DT (1982-1985): Lombardi Award winner and in the College Football Hall of Fame, he was the anchor of the defense that won the 1985 national championship.

8: Steve Owens, RB (1967-1969): This Heisman Trophy winner is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

9: Sam Bradford, QB (2007-2009): Heisman Trophy winner only played two full seasons because of injury, but owns nearly every passing record in OU history.

10: Jason White, QB (1999-2004): Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback who supercharged the Sooners passing attack and shattered records.

11: Joe Washington, RB (1972-1975): Led the rushing attack for the Sooners during their back-to-back national championships in 1974 and 1975.

12: Tommie Harris, DT (2001-2003): Lombardi Award winner who stifled opposing offenses.

13: Rocky Calmus, LB (1998-2001): Butkus Award winner who was a tough as nails leader on the 2000 National Championship team's defense.

14: Jamelle Holieway, QB (1985-1988): Led the Sooners to the 1985 national championship victory, throwing this bomb.

15: Billy Vessels, RB (1950-1952): Heisman Trophy running back led the team to the 1950 national championship.

16: Ryan Broyles, WR (2008-2011): Ranks second in NCAA history with 4,586 career receiving yards and holds 10 OU receiving records.

17: Tommy McDonald, RB (1954-1956): Member of both the College Football Hall of Fame and the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

18: Ricky Dixon, DB (1984-1987): The first Sooner to win the Jim Thorpe Award.

19: Gregg Pruitt, RB (1970-1972): Rushed for 1,760 yards his junior year.

20: Joe Bowden, LB (1988-1991): One of the most dominating linebackers in OU history.

21: Josh Heupel, QB (1999-2000): Led the team to the 2000 national championship.

22: Spencer Tillman, RB (1982-1986): Nebraska fans will never forget this.

23: Jamaal Brown, OL (2001-2004): Outland Trophy winner protected Jason White.

24: Danté Jones, LB (1983-1987): Dominating linebacker for 1985 national champions.

25: Aubrey Beavers, LB (1990-1993): Beast of a linebacker -- watch this.

9: Sam Bradford, QB (2007-2009): Heisman Trophy winner only played two full seasons because of injury, but owns nearly every passing record in OU history.

So, Landry hasn't done enough to get on the list except for pass what Bradford got on the list for. Minus the Heisman, of course.

I think Q could be a guy on that list, perhaps Anthony Phillips

one of the two - either Jack Mildren or Steve Davis - should be on that list

There's only one Bubba Moses...

Q should definitely be on there somewhere. He holds the record for total combined rushing/receiving yardage.

Also, any top 25 list w/o Rod Shoate = immediate File 13 material.

How about Demond Parker?

And only two players from the 47 straight era? A tad biased towards 'now' I think.

Agreed..I could tell you without seeing this guy he is somewhere between 25-30

Clearly none of the Peters family being on this list invalidates it ;)

and for Froze, no PJ Mills ;)

Fun read. I smiled on just about everyone. Memories.

When does football start?

i will always, on any list regarding OU, put josh heupel near the top. he may not have been the best, but he was the most important, imo.

think it'd be interesting to read about some of the "unknown" defensive players from the wilkinson era that were one notch below the superstars (which we don't hear a lot about either). probably would've been all-americans had they played anywhere else.

Jerry Tubbs and Jimmie Harris should be on that list; Tommie Harris, Aubrey Beavers, Joe Bowden, and Spencer Tillman should be nowhere near the top 25

aubrey beavers couldn't spell his own name - that alone should disqualify him from the top 25.

Where's Randy Hughes? Probably the best DB in OU history;i would put him on this list in place of Dixon

DeMarco Murray, all-time touchdown leader at OU deserves to be on there too

StoopTroup

Yep Murray, Tommie and Kelly Gregg deserve at least being mentioned that although they didn't make the OP's list, they definitely would be on many other Sooner Fans lists as we all have our Favorites but there are way more than 25 deserving of their days at OU.

I might give Eric Bassey an honorable mention as when The Monster was bearing an ugly head at him for some bad plays he made, he stuck with it and never quit or gave up and continued to try and overcome the plays that many tried to crucify him for. He really stuck with it and the Coaches never gave up on him either. I have a lot of respect for him. He went on to have a short career in the NFL as a DB even though many said he'd never be taken seriously or considered draftable. Bassey was originally signed by the Buffalo Bills as an undrafted free agent in 2006 and spent the entire season on the practice squad.

I cringe whenever I see a top [insert number] Sooners of all time list. It's way too subjective. Now, if it were broken down by position, that may make a little more sense.

There you go STEP...break down the top 5 Sooners all time by position.

i'd move heupel up about 10 spots. boz down about 10. jimmie harris never lost a game.

i agree, with all the richness to draw from....you have to go by position and go a couple deep at least. i don't think Murray is on the list, imho. love the guy but at RB...at OU. stats are stats....they have other contingencies.

where's Chet Winters?

j/k, loved Chet #40....but Steve Rhodes has got to find a way into lists like this imo. at least hon mention. most underrated Sooner ever.

8tc, what do you base it off of? Sometimes, most talent doesn't mean best..And we are talking what they did as Sooners, not what they did in the league, right?

We all have our favorites. Personally I would have to put Antonio Perkins on my list. :)

I would definitely add Demond Parker somewhere on that list and I would move Josh Heupel wayyy up. Heupel (along with Stoops) resurrected the Sooner program back to dominance.

What a problem to have....when I listen to Pat Jones about the only players he can talk about is Barry Sanders, Weeden, and Blackmon......and Mike Gundy

How can you not include Soupy Smoot? A football player and an opera singer. Plus, one of the best names ever.
