The godfather sounds like a Republican presidential candidate now...

Listen up left... the truth will set you free.....

Two months ago, James Lovelock, the godfather of global warming, gave a startling interview to msnbc.com in which he acknowledged he had been unduly “alarmist” about climate change.

The implications were extraordinary.

Lovelock is a world-renowned scientist and environmentalist whose Gaia theory — that the Earth operates as a single, living organism — has had a profound impact on the development of global warming theory.

Unlike many “environmentalists,” who have degrees in political science, Lovelock, until his recent retirement at age 92, was a much-honoured working scientist and academic.

His inventions have been used by NASA, among many other scientific organizations.

Lovelock’s invention of the electron capture detector in 1957 first enabled scientists to measure CFCs (chlorofluorocarbons) and other pollutants in the atmosphere, leading, in many ways, to the birth of the modern environmental movement.

Having observed that global temperatures since the turn of the millennium have not gone up in the way computer-based climate models predicted, Lovelock acknowledged, “the problem is we don’t know what the climate is doing. We thought we knew 20 years ago.” Now, Lovelock has given a follow-up interview to the UK’s Guardian newspaper in which he delivers more bombshells sure to anger the global green movement, which for years worshipped his Gaia theory and apocalyptic predictions that billions would die from man-made climate change by the end of this century.

Lovelock still believes anthropogenic global warming is occurring and that mankind must lower its greenhouse gas emissions, but says it’s now clear the doomsday predictions, including his own (and Al Gore’s) were incorrect.

He responds to attacks on his revised views by noting that, unlike many climate scientists who fear a loss of government funding if they admit error, as a freelance scientist, he’s never been afraid to revise his theories in the face of new evidence. Indeed, that’s how science advances.

Among his observations to the Guardian:

(1) A long-time supporter of nuclear power as a way to lower greenhouse gas emissions, which has made him unpopular with environmentalists, Lovelock has now come out in favour of natural gas fracking (which environmentalists also oppose), as a low-polluting alternative to coal.

As Lovelock observes, “Gas is almost a give-away in the U.S. at the moment. They’ve gone for fracking in a big way. This is what makes me very cross with the greens for trying to knock it … Let’s be pragmatic and sensible and get Britain to switch everything to methane. We should be going mad on it.” (Kandeh Yumkella, co-head of a major United Nations program on sustainable energy, made similar arguments last week at a UN environmental conference in Rio de Janeiro, advocating the development of conventional and unconventional natural gas resources as a way to reduce deforestation and save millions of lives in the Third World.)

(2) Lovelock blasted greens for treating global warming like a religion.

“It just so happens that the green religion is now taking over from the Christian religion,” Lovelock observed. “I don’t think people have noticed that, but it’s got all the sort of terms that religions use … The greens use guilt. That just shows how religious greens are. You can’t win people round by saying they are guilty for putting (carbon dioxide) in the air.”

(3) Lovelock mocks the idea modern economies can be powered by wind turbines.

As he puts it, “so-called ‘sustainable development’ … is meaningless drivel … We rushed into renewable energy without any thought. The schemes are largely hopelessly inefficient and unpleasant. I personally can’t stand windmills at any price.”

(4) Finally, about claims “the science is settled” on global warming: “One thing that being a scientist has taught me is that you can never be certain about anything. You never know the truth. You can only approach it and hope to get a bit nearer to it each time. You iterate towards the truth. You don’t know it.”

yep, it's a hoax, just like he says

Ive said it fer a Long dayum time, I dont know about the rest of the world But I do Oklahoma . Its gettin hotter every dayum year.

Years ago we could Ice skate on the farm ponds around here, Now we lucky if it gets cold enough to kill off a few ****in bugs .

Now as to whats causing this ? I aint got a clue but we ARE gettin warmer. Is it Caused by Man? The more arrogant of us seem to think so. Is it Just a natural warming trend, Ima say IMHO. its a tad of both

Saw that article this weekend!

Someone tell Al Gore that he is cheating people out of their life savings!
What will Joe Biden come up with after November?
(Reverse mortgage commercials?)

Gotta agree with ya. I have had maters on the vine into November in Delaware. That is amazing. There was an article in the paper on Sunday that said sea level rise on the East Coast is happening 4 times faster than previously though. The good news is that ole DD will have beach front property in a 100 years.

Vet's pretty well got it.
I don't believe there's evidence to show that THE SKY'S GOING TO FALL AND WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE UNLESS WE GO LIVE IN ZERO IMPACT HUTS TONIGHT!!!

I also don't have any problems with the concept that pouring endless trash into the water and air and onto the land is a bad idea; and that we should impose legal sanctions on those who insist on doing so.

Acting as though your mom was watching is really not so hard.

he has recanted his ideas that billions of people will die in the near future. he went too far. i don't think that is earth shattering information

do i think everyone should stop driving cars tomorrow? no

do i think it's a good idea for everyone to drive a V8 truck/SUV to work everyday? no

most of the things to fight global warming are a good idea anyway, so i don't see that much of an issue.

if that makes me a progressive, so be it

As with all "movements," it's the psychopathic fringers who **** it all up. Yeah, it's hot. But then again I had to bust ice on the ponds for the cattle and am still removing downed pecan trees from two straight years of numbing cold winters and ice storms.

I pretty much think it's laughable that anyone believes any of the horse**** out there on the environment. Us puny little humans don't know dick about it, have no control over it, and those that think they/we do are buffoons. It just is what it is.

the "environment" we have plenty of potential to damage

the weather? yeah, that's a little more debatable

I'm all for taking better care of our planet and all that - that's only smart. I don't even question whether the earth is getting warmer, as it may well be. It was just all the doomsday over the top hoopla that I had a problem with. And of course those that made global warming their new religion. Me and you prolly pretty close in our ideas...and I know that I'm no damn progressive!

The earth has been getting hotter. So were the other planets in our solar system, like Mars. The concern would be if Earth were going against the trend of all other plants in our solar system.
The weather has always changed and will continue to do so. The earth is actually starting to cool now. And when it is all said and done we're talking about an average temperature change of about a whopping 1 degree.

There is no legit evidence that YOU and I are the reason for 'global warming'.

This has always been a left wing conspiracy to bring down capitalism and spread our wealth around the world. Now that the earth temperature hasn't really moved over the last decade, you now see the tactic change to referring to 'climate change' rather than global warming.
Now, the simpletons will believe that any trend in the change of temperate, hotter or cooler, is because of YOU and ME .... and we're all going to die!!

btw, if you think the nuts are the ones who think this is a scam, here's a confession from the UN, who has been pushing this scam for decades. http://newsbusters.org/blogs/noel-sheppard/2010/11/18/un-ipcc-official-we-redistribute-worlds-wealth-climate-policy

But you leftist can go ahead and keep believing evil humans are the cause of 'global warming'. Al Gore will gladly take your cash so you can be a good little human being and decrease your 'carbon footprint'.

Agreed. The actual 'measured' increase is around 0.2 degrees.

From web sites that promote this nonsense...

http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=average-global-temperature-rise-creates-new-normal

...."Warmer than average global temperatures have become the new normal," says Jay Lawrimore, chief of climate analysis at NOAA's National Climatic Data Center, which tracks these numbers. "The global temperature has increased more than 1 degree Fahrenheit [0.7 degree C] since 1900 and the rate of warming since the late 1970s has been about three times greater than the century-scale trend."

http://hypertextbook.com/facts/2005/JudyTang.shtml

"It is remarkable that over the last 400.000 years, the maximum of the yearly average of the temperature exceeded the present values by just 1 to 2 °C (average temperature on earth was then 16 to 17 °C compared to 15 °C today) ; the last time that we reached such values was 130.000 years ago."

I believe I've seen Kabookie's 0.2 degrees mentioned before too.

In short, the 'change' has been miniscule. You'd think they were talking about 50 °F the way the democrats are wanting to spend trillions to 'combat' global warming.

Its ridiculous.

Radio said it was a 108 out there today , Thats a lot hotter than usual for this time of year and its been this way for awhile. Our summers ARE gettin hotter, Our Winters Milder in the long run. Sure we get the ice storms Ive seen Pics that Dean posted, Bad **** Peeps. But thats My Point about it, The Cold extremes are gettin worse while Hot extremes are gettin longer.

The Climate IS ****in Changin. I just dont Think Deans Cattle fartin caused it

Horse chit. There's a GD reason why this area of the planet was relatively unpopulated for eons. That is until air conditioning was invented. The summers have been hot and dry as **** and the winters have been cold as **** in Oklahoma for thousands of years.

Don't forget that roughly 80 year cycle no one wants to talk about, either.

Anyone else find it strange that so many of these records we're flirting with are approximately 80 years ago?
