His Scout profile. I wonder if we want him as a DB or a WR: http://oklahoma.scout.com/a.z?s=146&p=8&c=1&nid=5446722

Here's Rivals: http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Austin-Bennett-108813

:torn: We're landing a lot of 3 stars in the last couple of classes. The no-show at Stoolwater, and the defensive no-show vs sandaggy, plus the uncertainty of Mike as DC have created a little uncertainty, but, those lightly heralded guys COULD turn out to be much better than advertised.

The last Heisman winner from OU was a 3 star.

Just sayin.

On Rivals he was a 3-star. Rivals is usually better than Scout, but I guess Scout beat em on this one.

It may be a mistake but Rivals shows a 20 yd shuttle of 4.41 sec. I think/hope it was a 40 yd dash time. :)

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Austin-Bennett-108813Yeah, a wideout with a 8.82 time in the 40 wouldn't have more than a one-star...EVEN IF he could jump!

Rivals, 3 star

And besides....wonder how many people realize there really is not much difference between a 3 star and a 5 star.

The biggest differences are exposure, high school team status, and how many times you actually go to camps like Nike, and Rivals camps.

Star rankings are comparable to AAU rankings...its all about exposure.

let me guess, you see the 20 yards and you are thinking a 4.41 is slow?

Fastest 20 yard shuttle I know and have seen is a 3.99...and that guy ended up running a 4.4 forty.

The 20 yard shuttle is primarily to show your change of direction and short yardage acceleration. It isn't a straight line sprint... it is done by a 10 yard distance.

You start in the middle of the 10 yards. You go one direction (5 yards), touch the line with your and, push off and run 10 yards, touch the line, and push off and go back to the middle (5 yards) and sprint through to finish.

4.41 is not bad at all, and it actually pretty explosive for a HS.

My son in 7th grade is a WR. he ran a 5.31...

Only say this because I think it will give you a better perspective.

......Fastest 20 yard shuttle I know and have seen is a 3.99....

You should know one better, Fleming ran a 3.97 shuttle at the 2012 combine. Fastest was Casey Hayward with a 3.90.

Shuttle comparisons at the combine:
Ronnell Lewis, 4.40
Donald Stephenson, 4.70
James Hanna, 4.11

Receivers typically run the shuttle about 0.3-0.5 sec faster than the 4.4.

Anyway, I did think a 4.41 was a bit slow for a receiver although from a HS junior. :cheerful:

the SEC speed comment was a joke

but thanks to those of you that made it an "interesting discussion" :)

I am just worried that his speed will drop something like 1 second in the 40 after abandoning his commitment to an SEC school.

He might also go blind and develop a muscle wasting disease.

That shows how the star ratings aren't a reliable predictor of talent. I've got a better feeling about how our future looks knowing the same coach that's put us in 4 NC games is still running the show here
