When we lived in DC one of my favorite things to do was to see the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

This is a video I happened to see of the inspection of the guard and I thought it was amazing. Anyone who has been in the military and carried a rifle to inspection would appreciate the precision and professionalism of these soldiers.

My sister lives on Chesapeake Bay and I've been to Arlington many times. We were there one year and got to see the changing right after Clinton gave a speech on Memorial Day.

That was the time I just happened to look over and see Joe Louis' grave.

I've been to Arlington a few times, and seen the tomb/changing of the guard on every occasion. Pretty amazing display of precision. Although, I think the Marines could do it better :D

It was one of my favorite sites to see. When I lived in Maryland I would visit. My Great Uncle is buried there.

I've been to Arlington probably 20-25 times. There's just too much to see there to do it in a day if you're into military history. I always get goosebumps and chills when I watch the COG ceremony - even after all the times I've seen it.

I've been there when the guy/s doing the commentary during the ribbon laying completely screw the pooch in what they're saying; but they always recover well and nobody knows except those who they're talking about. Guys are complete professionals who have my utmost respect - especially during these times when so many kids are n'er do wells. It's pretty much **** duty so a guy really has to want to do it to be accepted.

I saw it as an 8 year old.

Still impressed with the precision.

And yes, they really do the walk 24/7 and in all weather. I've been there when it's pouring and they're out there. When there's snow and it's colder than hell and they're out there.

I don't know for sure, but I remember hearing that there is a very long waiting list for COG duty. I know in the Marine Corp, Marine One (white house/presidents helicopter) escort duty had a very long waiting list, and was pretty well known to be **** duty.

So yeah, they gotta really want to be in that gig to do it...because it ain't fun.
