I met a West Point grad recently who is about 85 years old. Still has that West Point ring on. What a good deal.

Congrats JK.
We swing by the Hudson every year on way home from Maine. I have taken my boys to West Point three times and we enjoy the museum. Next, year we are hoping to get their Boy Scout troop up for a weekend. This year we did Annapolis.
I don't know if you had a chance to drive to Rinebeck NY where the Clinton's daughter got married. It is a really nice area. The CIA is fun to go to for a meal.
Funny story. About 15 years ago we were up at West Point with some friends when you could just drive on the academy grounds....pre 9/11. Anyway, my wife's friend was this high flying Wall Street exec who has a personality larger than life and she always has these floofloo dogs with her. As we were walking around the parade field I stopped to talk to a cadet when all of a sudden I saw this look of horror in his face. I looked around and saw my friends dog taking this huge sh*t right in the middle of the parade field. Now being an AF guy I thought it was funny but in the West Point world it was a huge deal.........I mean huge. Cadets, guards, civilians seemed to have come out of the wood work to jump on our friend. I had to really sort things out fast and I cleaned up the mess being very apologetic. Man you would have thought the dog crapped in the Vatican. It was that bad. Having gone to a military school I sort of understand their point of view but a simple please clean up your mess and get the f*ck off the parade field would have been enough. I think if they could have lined up the dog and our friend before a firing squad things would not have come out real well for them.....at least not the dog.

you're talking about The Plain - and yeah - nobody sets foot on it unless they're in a parade..its off limits to cadets even unless they're in formation
funny story......

Soooo... are your names on the inside of your hats or do you just grab one that falls in your area and hope it fits? :D
congrats!

thats a cadet hat - they dont wear them as 2LT's - the tradition is that they put money in the little name tag slot inside the hat - at the end of the graduation ceremony - about 200 kids - ages 6 to 10 -are lined up in a roped off area off to the right of the picture - they are released and do the mad dash to grab a hat...most cadets put a $20 spot in there
so that hats are basically trash! :) (i think he bought an extra one as a memento)

as long as he calls me dad or chief - either one ;)
yep - i've been looking at pictures i've collected from the last 4 years - he's grown a lot. I got pretty lucky in the kid department - both my boys are pretty great - of course i'm extremely biased
