A fun offseason story.

“I still pull for OU,” Dickerson said. “I’ve always been an OU fan. SMU first, my second team is OU.”

Apparently momma didn't trust Switzer :D

In hindsight, trusting SMU wasn't exactly a wise move...

As much as I hate to say it, the Pokes 87 backfield sez hi.

think of Earl Campbell as a "wishbone fullback" with Billy Sims & others.
or Campbell could have been a WB halfback.

Neither could A&M even though they provided him a new Trans Am.

Makes one wonder what exactly SMU did offer him to go there

Makes one wonder what exactly SMU did offer him to go thereOne kid that didn't play much got 25k plus continuing payments (just going by memory)

he's the LB that rolled over on them.
gotta figure dickerson got much much more.
plus a free car from a & m.

And I have to wonder if the competition would have made Dupree work harder, or if it would have made him quit earlier.

Wasn't this pretty well known? Not to mention, Barry Sanders family wanted to send tape to OU, if I am not mistaken, and was told OU was full up... (Switzer covers this in Bootlegger's Boy)

Old news is always new news to someone. We all have to learn our Sooner lore somewhere. :)

From NFL Network's "Top Ten": "Narrator: Barry Sanders always dreamed of starring at Oklahoma for Barry Switzer. Barry Switzer 1995: 'You don't take a 5'7" 165-70 Lb. Wingback out of high school when you've only got 30 scholarships."

Oh what might have been! Eric Dickerson followed by Mike Gaddis and Barry Sanders in the same backfield! :Whistles:

Now if any of you recall there was an article in SI in 1988 about how those two were battling each other with 200+ yard games. That is, until the turf at the Cotton Bowl ruined one of the prettiest RBs that ever came down the pike. Both of those RBs were on pace to become two of the best that ever played the game. It would have been a harder call in 1988 to choose between who to start (between Mr. Gaddis and Mr. Sanders) than many in 2012 might imagine.

When Mike Gaddis broke into the open field--which he did quite often--there wasn't a prettier RB on the planet.

I was there when Gaddis went down. Knew it right then and there that he was by all accounts, never going to be the same. :miserable:

I guess what's new here is that we already knew King's perspective, but now, Eric confirmed it too.
