Bill Stewart.

That's too bad, even though I paid good money to go down there and witness that debacle.

How could you not know who Bill Start is? He's almost as famous as former U.S. President Ronald Rembrandt.

Man that sucks. Bob's own father was a victim of the same thing so I bet this has been a rather uncomfortable reminder for both he and Mike about their own mortality.

He took the long road to reach the top of the mountain, then found out getting there really wasn't the difficult part. Staying there was.

The really weird thing was that I was doing random searches on athletes who suddenly lost their lives (reggie white, ken caminitti, rod beck, jose lima, Kory Stringer, and Derrick Thomas), and then I log on to espn.com only to see this. So sad, we never really know when it is our final day.

Very sad, especially sad that people might remember him as the guy that tried to smear Coach Dana to get his job back shortly after WVU was trying to force him out by assigning him a "coach in waiting" and then just forcing him out after the smear campaign. :(

I hope WVU fans and fans in general remember him instead as the guy that took over when the couch burners were betrayed by one of their own (Rich Roddy dumping them for Meatchicken right before the Fiesta Bowl), then leading them to one of the biggest victories in program history (over us, yes, grrrrr).

Sad, he got them ready to play us in
a game that I'll never forget. Cheapest BCS ticket outside the staduim ever purchased. I'm glad we will get to throttle them for years to come.

RIP Bill

I remember people on this board talking about how they lost all respect for him after that incident.

This just in: NO ONE DOES THE RIGHT THING ALL THE TIME. Everyone will make their share of mistakes in their lifetime, and if one of those mistakes is trying to get rid of a sociopathic alchoholic who replaced you courtesy of an AD who is willing to humiliate you by forcing you to work with said replacement because he is too cheap to pay him to stay home, then I will forgive him for that.

I was probably among them, much like I was once among those who absolutely detested Barry Switzer (lifelong Packer fan, had no idea he was OU's coach once till I moved down here, so the hatred was for 1995 NFC Championship, not anything related to any SI cover photos).

Or rather, I was probably poking fun at Dana's hair or something.

In any event, RIP Bill.

I never read anything about the Stewart/WVU divorce. Really don't care. I did, however like BS. Face it, he did good for WVU standards and a bunch of picky fans got greedy and spoke their minds by not supporting the team. It reminds me of all the numb nut Poke fans who wanted Gundy fired all the way up until he finally beat OU. Except, they still won't sell out their stadium. :P
Coach Stew was a good one in my book. WVU traded him in for a brand new-ish alcoholic DH (who looks like Biker Fox's twin brother, BTW).

Young guy too... 59? Stress of the job or bad genes.

Mark Harmon's legendary dad killed over after winning a golf tourney. Pretty good way to go.

Coach Stewart was just 10 yrs older than me, but he looked 20 yrs older, imo. He seemed like a good guy, and I felt bad that he got caught up in the DH coach-in-waiting thing.

Bill Stewart was passionate about the State of West Virginia and Mountaineer Football. Don't know if this has ever been posted here, but here's a link to his pregame speach before the Fiesta Bowl.

I never have liked WVU, especially since the '82? game where they throttled us in Norman.
