Apparently this is part or all of the original one the Gifford started.

5% pay reduction, no automatic pay increases, no retirement benefits...

the basics...we'll see if congress has the "balls" to do it...

I think it would be a mistake to cut retirement...

To be in the Senate or House you basically give up your prior job...

You serve one term and then get dumped you could be starting from scratch....

This would greatly benefit the wealthy when considering a run for Congress...

How 'bout an attachment that says they don't get to keep all the money that passed under the table?

we should take the decision to run away from the candidates. If you want to be a citizen....then you have to put your name in a pool...just like jury duty. Obviously some screening would be required to be able to be selected for inclusion in the pool. A random selection of x from the pool then will run in the election. If elected your old job is protected just like military service and you can only serve one term.

wont work/pipe dream......couldn't be any worse than what we have now.

WOW! Best idea ever. I sincerely hope someone here keeps following this story and keeps us updated as to who is voting for it and who is against it.

Phil:

I think they should be put on the same retirement system as the civil servants. You get credit for years served.

Also, and this is huge, they should be forced to give back whatever remains in their campaign funds to the state they represent. As it stands right now they can keep that money.

Nope, not a great idea. There is such a potential for conflict of interest.
