Thanks. Believe it or not, I feel pretty good. I only had two classes this last semester, so I only had two finals. I could have held off until next Wednesday to take this last one, but my only other was last Friday. Spent the weekend studying and said "Eff it, let's end this."

Now I'm sitting by the pool drinking Fat Tire and watching pretty little undergrad girls.

It's pretty anticlimactic. You now get a couple days off after graduation and then headfirst into Bar prep.

Congrats for now, but your summer is going to suck.

Two weeks, but in those two weeks I need to find a place to live in Memphis for a year.

Mike are you gonna practice in Tenn, or maybe a tri state deal?

Congratulations Mike! Well earned!

I'll be practicing in Alabama. However, I'm clerking for a federal judge for a year before private practice. I'll take the Alabama Bar, not Tennessee, though I'll probably take Tennessee next year (Huntsville is right over the state line.)

Clerkin Pay anything Or just dividends down the road?

Frozen Sooner

Well, it's a significant pay cut over what I would make if I just went to my firm right now. Pays about what I was making as a branch manager before law school. But yeah, it's the prestige thing; supposedly, it's a really great transition into practice as well.

Congrats!

I sincerely hope that those horror stories about law schools only existing to make colleges money while graduates fret over billable hours in order to keep their 100 hour per week job that averages about to about 2 cents per hour before taxes (1 cent after) are just exaggerations by the media :D

Frozen Sooner
5/1/2012, 09:05 AM
Not particularly exaggerated. Employment numbers for new attorneys suck. I just happened to beat the odds.

I remember when I finally got my Master's. For 18 straight months the only thing I read on airplanes or at home was academic textbooks. Reading while taking notes or trying to retain for an exam. Then, when I finally got to read something for pleasure (I graduated in 2000) the Harry Potter books were coming out. Win-mother****ing-win.

Congrats Mike.

Just don't get a job in Memphis, with a firm that has ties to the mob. Even if they offer to buy you a convertible Benz and a nice house. Trust me, in the end, you'll end up in all kinds of red tape with the FBI and although your brother will be free from jail, you will have cheated on your wife, and she will have cheated on you....with Gene Hackman!

Otherwise, glad you made it Frozone!

Yes. And that big stack of bar review books in my office is yelling at me. I'm gonna ignore them for a week or so.
