Serves as a pretty good counterpoint to those that say it would be too expensive to deport all illegals.

If you enforce the laws and make life difficult here for those that choose to break the law, many will go home.

At zero cost to the government no less.

Exactly. Everyone knows it's impossible to round them all up and deport. The most effective thing you can do is create conditions in which they have no reason to come or stay here.

I think I may have already posted the story of when Maria and I brought her youngest sister, Alma, over from Mexico when she was 16. I enrolled her in the high school and, of course, she was not yet fluent in English. She seeks other students out who might speak Spanish, but is disappointed to find most of the AP Spanish students don't speak Spanish very well. And then she discovers that there's a student organization named "MECHA" that has a latino theme to it. So she goes to a MECHA meeting and tries to converse with a couple of girls who appear to be latina. One of the girls says, "This is America and we speak English here" -- and goes on the belittle Mexicans who dress like backward-a$$ ranchera cowboys. So much for that liberal MECHA club!!!

Let me lay it out for you.

Both my mother and father grew up on farms in Oklahoma and mom got part of her farm from her dad about 40 years ago. They have since bought more land. My dad was basically living on a farm as a share cropper because they were to poor to own land.

My fathers parents were divorced and his dad worked out of Odessa Texas in the oil fields as a rufneck and then a tool pusher. We would drive to see him at the well sites most of the time because he lived in a trailer. He drilled for about everyone including Getty. His last company was (I believe) Midland Marine which I do not think is around anymore.

When my dad graduated from college he went into the military and flew as a pilot and he retired as an O6. Mom and dad would send me to Oklahoma in the summer to work on my uncles farm/ranch and I did that every summer from 8th grade through college. He also farmed mom and dads place. (I said they were absentee land owners). The farm mom and dad own is near Okarche. The other family farms (relatives) were located in Kingfisher County. Mom's farm is a farm that was in the family from the land rush and she has the deed that was signed by Teddy Roosevelt.

My parents retired in Delaware after dad got out of the service. I got stationed at Dover and decided to stay as well.

And since you mentioned prostitutes.....well our suspicions are my moms grandmother was most likely a prostitute since she was out in the boom towns when Oklahoma was still a territory. Most women on the frontier were not there for any other reason.

Does that help?

At least SicEm's honest about his reasons for immigration control. It's not about economic opportunity for him since he's never tried to find a job. He just doesn't like brown people.
I don't hate Hispanics. Hell, I have a couple of close friends that are Hispanic. What I hate is immigration of all sorts and shapes. I'm opposed to both legal and illegal immigration regardless of nation of origin; however, I concede that I am somewhat less opposed to immigration from Commonwealth nations. The reason is simple -- our nation was built by Anglo-Saxons with Anglo-Saxon/Western European political principles. Our heritage is predominantly western European, and western Europeans have contributed more to the advancement of individual rights and liberty than any other civilization on Earth. There is a lot to be proud of.

Why on Earth would we want to import 3rd world riff-raff that have had decades or centuries to build thriving nations and civilizations based on their own culture? While Thomas Paine was writing "Common Sense" a large portion of the Earth had barely developed the wheel. The only reason many of these societies moved on from their loin-cloth roots is because Europeans brought to them civilization with colonization.

Do I want them to visit the United States? Sure! Do I want to give some of them the opportunity to study here? Sure! Hell, I would even accept very temporary work visas in very limited numbers so long as it didn't lead to permanent residency or citizenship.

They're an economic burden, they take our jobs, they dilute our culture, increase the "balkanization" of America, and their food is often overrated.

You use subsidies to move an industry in the direction you want...

What would happen to short, mid, and long term fuel prices if all "subsidies" were removed?

We would save x billions in subsidies/taxes...but we would pay x billions more in gas prices so the overall cost wouldn't change significantly...

But the poor would get hit due to the higher fuel price and since they don't pay any significant amount of income taxes they would have a net loss...

There's also the unfair aspect of targeting just the oil and gas industry for their tax writeoffs and giving all the other manufacturers the same tax breaks. Nothing new to a regime or mentality that also wanted windfall profits tax for just the oil and gas industry...don't remember it being mentioned for Wall Street, the tech industry, etc...

And then there is this wonderful little tidbit from earleir this week......

EPA Official's 'Philosophy' On Oil Companies: 'Crucify Them' - Just As Romans Crucified Conquered Citizens
Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK) took to the Senate floor yesterday to draw attention to a video of a top EPA official saying the EPA’s “philosophy” is to “crucify” and “make examples” of oil and gas companies - just as the Romans crucified random citizens in areas they conquered to ensure obedience. Inhofe quoted a little-watched video from 2010 of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) official, Region VI Administrator Al Armendariz, admitting that EPA’s “general philosophy” is to “crucify” and “make examples” of oil and gas companies. In the video, Administrator Armendariz says:

“I was in a meeting once and I gave an analogy to my staff about my philosophy of enforcement, and I think it was probably a little crude and maybe not appropriate for the meeting, but I’ll go ahead and tell you what I said: It was kind of like how the Romans used to, you know, conquer villages in the Mediterranean. They’d go in to a little Turkish town somewhere, they’dfind the first five guys they saw and they’d crucify them. Then, you know, that town was really easy to manage for the next few years.”

Soon after Armendariz touted the EPA’s “philosophy,” the EPA began smear campaigns against natural gas producers, Inhofe’s office noted in advance of today’s Senate speech:

“Not long after Administrator Armendariz made these comments in 2010, EPA targeted US natural gas producers in Pennsylvania, Texas and Wyoming. In all three of these cases, EPA initially made headline-grabbing statements either insinuating or proclaiming outright that the use of hydraulic fracturing by American energy producers was the cause of water contamination, but in each case their comments were premature at best – and despite their most valiant efforts, they have been unable to find any sound scientific evidence to make this link.”
(CNS NEWS)

Then the apology…
The Obama-appointed Environmental Protection Agency official who explained that the agency uses a “crucify them” enforcement philosophy against oil and gas companies apologized for his comments on Wednesday night. “I apologize to those I have offended and regret my poor choice of words,” Region 6 EPA Administrator Al Armendariz said in a statement provided to The Daily Caller. “It was an offensive and inaccurate way to portray our efforts to address potential violations of our nation’s environmental laws. I am and have always been committed to fair and vigorous enforcement of those laws. ”
