Getting the Friday game would be big as that's the only game K-State has won in its first two Big 12 series. Love to put them behind the eight-ball and get serious doubts in their minds right off the bat.

We are coming in on a 3 game winning streak and KSU is coming in on a 3 game losing streak. They lost their first two series in Big 12 play but did pick up wins against A&M and Texas in those series. They are a decent team but we should be able to win the series or sweep them. I find this to be a critical series because our next four games after this will be the toughest on our schedule. Next weekend we play A&M followed by a mid-week game against Arkansas (two top 10 teams in one week).

As Skip said in Bull Durham "This... is a simple game. You throw the ball. You hit the ball. You catch the ball"

Man we need to sweep this series. We need to put together a couple of games in a row with ZERO errors and some solid pitching.

Didn't want to start a new thread for it, but I saw on another board that Keilani Ricketts threw a perfect game (shortened by run rule) tonight for Patty & the gals. They won 8-0.

The ladies are doing very well this year and making a strong run. Keep it up.

NORMAN - Something had to be done the previous Friday night, and so Sunny Golloway called the four Oklahoma seniors on the Texas Tech trip into his hotel room. The OU coach called the meeting, but players Caleb Bushyhead, Erik Ross, Cody Reine and Evan Mistich picked it up from there.

"Those guys have ownership in the program," Golloway said. "I let them speak freely."

The air cleared, the Sooners haven't lost since.

Their 5-1 victory over visiting Kansas State on Friday made them 17-10 overall and 3-4 in the Big 12 Conference, one week after a 6-1 setback at Tech put them in an 0-4 league hole. They looked sharp in most phases.

Jordan John, settling into the role of Friday night starter, struck out a career-high 11 for a complete-game victory.

"I felt like during my warm-up I was tuned in," he said. "My mechanics were good. I was focused. That transitioned to the game."

The Sooners played errorless defense behind John, and have now committed just four miscues over their last six games.

Jack Mayfield put a charge into OU's offense with his third home run, a shot well over the leftfield wall in the seventh inning.

The vibe was strong, too. The Sooners didn't flinch after Kansas State took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first.

"In the dugout even though we were down, it was a feeling of confidence," Golloway said. "We're a different team. The feeling's different."
Just one week earlier, Golloway called that senior meeting out of what he called "anger." He was frustrated, and concerned.

"Just motivating the young guys," junior Max White said. "Telling them, 'It's still early. In conference, you never know what's going to happen. You never know who's going to come out and beat the other teams.'"

It was early. The Sooners needed to tweak a few things both on the field and in the dugout, and they could turn things around in plenty of time.

A week later, they have two wins over Tech, a midweek victory over Oral Roberts and Friday night's John-led effort to show for it.

So far, so good.

"We're finally starting to come together and those puzzle pieces are really starting to connect," Ross said Friday night. "I feel like our team is really turning that corner right now and running with it."

That's a solid series win. K-State is a team that is WELL coached and always seem to be a tough series win for whoever they are playing.

True! Not too long ago, they either swept the Forces of Evil (UT) down in Austin or won the series with a solid showing.

I'm curious about how the crowd was, and how the 9th inning looked from eyewitnesses? Did Reine's ball almost go out, or did it just find the gap in the right spot for him to get a triple? From my own eyewitness account, his ball that went out in 40-degree weather out here that Saturday night looked like it was going to land in Amarillo when it left the bat.

We had good crowds (for OU) all weekend -- more than a 1,000 each game. They got pretty noisy there in the ninth after Lockwood singled, but it did seem like a lot of wind was taken out of the sail when the second out of the inning was made. But when Reine cracked that ball, that place jumped as well as it has since last season.

Reine's ball was never in danger of going out, it was just driven HARD into the gap. It was basically lined out there so the fielders couldn't get any type of read on it because it was hit so hard. It was a totally clean triple -- Reine could have walked into third.
