This is going to sound like I'm very stupid and tech challenged, but I think I want to buy a DVR, and have never had one. Several years ago I bought a DVD-RAM recorder, which you could record shows onto re-usable discs (DVD-RAM) or standard DVD-R discs. The format never seemed to take off, but it worked fine for me. I don't record much at all.
Not this machine is broken. The plan is to by a DVR, but I want to be sure it will work with my current setup, which is Dish Network. I want to be sure I don't have to go thru them for some reason, or the thing won't work.
When the whole DVR thing came out, we were in Tulsa, with cable. I didn't want to shell out for the DVR, hence the DVR-RAM.
So, can I just run out to the store and get the DVR? I had been recording with the DVD thing OK, obviously not in HD. It looks like the common format is now DVR with a DVD recorder. I know I can get some practical advice here between the barbs.
