In other news, water is wet.

I thought liberalism was the bastion of critical thinking and not dogmatic conformity.

Guess not.

According to Pew's numbers, it really isn't even close..

Liberals are the most likely to have taken each of these steps to block, unfriend, or hide. In all, 28% of liberals have blocked, unfriended, or hidden someone on SNS because of one of these reasons, compared with 16% of conservatives and 14% of moderates.

I block dumbasses all the time. That hardly makes me liberal. That's like not changing the channel when commercials come on. Who wants to sit through some retarded BS when I can move on to something I enjoy.

Also, stupid study gets stupid results.

That's really persuasive and proves once and for all conservatives are open-minded and fair, and thus that conservative views are correct and that liberals are evil hypocrites. Thanks for providing such a conclusive resolution to that issue.

Well, not really. It's actually pretty stupid. It's from a site appropriately named "hot air" and it talks about behaviour on social networking sites. It signifies precisely nothing.Anybody who has ever had any kind of political discussions knows that close-minded extremists are on both ends of the spectrum and not limited to politics and religion, but more important things like sports, music, books, movies, and food.

Most liberals and conservatives I know personally are pretty open-minded, or at least not rude; but some on each side are not at all personally tolerant of other views. As long as you don't try to make your intolerance public policy, I'm OK with it.

People love hearing opinions that reinforce their own... you know, their church denominations, their choices in news programming, hell, even what radio stations they listen to for their sports chatter.

So, this doesn't surprise me. And I don't blame anyone for blocking stuff they disagree with.

Now please, block badger. Go ahead, do it! :P

TU is a grand dodger when the shoe is on the other foot.

Pew is hardly a conservative source. The fact that it was linked from hotair means nothing and he knows it.

Orwellian speak is always in Vogue." We are tolerant of everyone except for you intolerant conservatives. We just don't have the patience for your lies and flat earth mentalities." Some are more equal than others.

I have never heard of "hot air" before today. I just thought the name was funny. And by the way, what am I supposedly dodging?
Since you did not understand my post (and your response is pretty much incoherent -- EDIT: I should say "cryptic"), I'll give you the short version of what I said:

Facebook blocking and ignore lists are hardly conclusive indicia of intolerance.

Intolerance is not limited to liberals.

Most people are not intolerant.

Intolerance is objectionable as public policy.

I object to hypocrisy for the left or the right, and cant from the left or the right. And , by the way, I do discount or ignore (2 or 3) some posters, but that's because they have proved over the long haul that they have nothing new or interesting to say. But it takes some doing to get on that list and stay there. (Even I AM RUSH's Parrott comes off during football season.) If I ignored everyone who disagreed with me I'd be pretty lonely around here.

You know, that excellent point makes me ask this: Where are the extreme leftists on these boards? Someone show me the threads started by Marxists, Bolsheviks (or Menshviks even), Socialist, or other lefties and liberals. I don't say it can't be done, but I'd like to see what counts as "liberal" around here. I will check back later to see how things are progressing.

Hardcore liberals are ones who say shocking things like:

"I find President Obama to be too conservative for my tastes."

And then every Republican within earshot listening's head explodes :D

Pretty much. Most Okies don't know what a liberal really is. I'm waaay right of center, but 'round here, since I don't pony up to the completely insane orthodoxy of the Republican Party which says that tort reform and environmental spoilage = conservative, I'm a liberal. I'm not really sure how either of those things fits in with the stated philosophical aims of conservatism, i.e., personal responsibility (conservatives orthodoxy seems to teach that personal responsibility only matters to the poor and middle class and that "job creators" deserve a free pass).

Once you win the PR battle, you can do anything and get away with it. The left tolerates only the views that fall in line with theirs, and call rubbish anything that doesn't abide by their credo. Thus they use the excuse of something being retarded drivel in order to be intolerant, when they would not consider anything that doesn't fall along their views.

things were different when it was Bush in office. now that it's the Obama haters spewing their sometimes even non-specific anti-Obama crap, of course it's the left leaning people more likely to block people

i haven't blocked/defriended anyone, but i've been pretty close

The last time I heard of a publication called hotair, it was the weekly "newsletter" from the Annals of Improbable Research (AIR). I don't think his one is connected to the other one, but based on the limited findings, it did sound like maybe the study did belong in AIR. Right next to the proof that Kansas is flatter than a pancake. There are any number of conclusions you can draw from that data that wouldn't be able to say anything about tolerance at all. Maybe more liberals friended acquaintances from high school, for instance. I know Ive got a few of those people in my friends list. People that weren't even a big part of my life then and who I probably wouldn't recognize on the street if it weren't for facebook. Some of them also never shut up about either Obama or Ron Paul or whatever Rush has talked about today. It gets old, and I could see thinking nothing about dropping those people. Is that intolerant? I don't really think so.

At least make some kind of ARGUMENT, you know with facts or evidence or anecdotes or parables or fables, even. Sheesh.

Why? Since when do I need to use the facts to win an argument with a liberal progressive anyhow? Most don't believe the facts anyway. Been a few decades since the mainstream media has been concerned with the "facts". Why bother?

And what is it that you do to views which don't fall in line with yours?

And define "the left."

I hope that I am open-minded enough to consider another person's point of view. When I reject a claim, like the non-existence of God, I have listened to every argument and found them lacking. When I hear all that is to hear, and my conviction still stands, then I place that under the category of "fundamental truths." I certainly don't call atheists fundamentalists, or bigots, or intolerant, just because they don't believe in God.

Left is the opposite of right. Although "left" is an arbitrary term that paints with a large brush people who generally lean Democratic, it is a basic term that defines a group of people who hold opposite political views to what we call the "right." It's simply a point of reference, and not a specific explanation of policies.
