Some interesting quotes:

"I don't hear anyone saying business as usual is acceptable, We need change."

What emerged, according to Ray and Crow, was consensus that the current BCS system needs to significantly change and that it should be replaced by a playoff system that may or may not include current BCS bowl members, including the Valley's Fiesta Bowl.

However, the Pac-12 chief executives want to protect the iconic Rose Bowl's status as an elite postseason game in which only representatives from the Pac-12 and Big Ten conferences play. In a playoff scenario, it might or might not be one of the playoff games.

Seeking a playoff is an about-face for the Pac-12, which has killed the idea in the past

"The BCS polls have had unintended consequences that are very negative in terms of the culture around football that places a premium on not losing," Scott said. "The BCS system really doesn't have any value around strength of schedule. It's about won-loss records. It's encouraged by coaches and conferences to want to schedule games as easy as possible and to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars and sometimes more to buy games and easy wins."

Just some offseason reading...

Dear Larry...

The BCS used to measure Strength of Schedule and all of you complained about that after OU went to the National Championship it's 4th time. You rallied to change it and now you again are unhappy that your Conference hasn't enjoyed any success since your Conference Champion USC got busted for multiple NCAA Violations. Stanford had a great Team and a QB that more than deserved a Hiesman Trophy but will in a few weeks become the #1 NFL Draft pick. Even with him at the helm of a very good Stanford Team they came up short more than once. That's not because of SOS that's because your Conference simply isn't as good as you think it is and adding teams like Colorado instead of an OU or even a worse Team like Fexas wasn't your cup of tea.

Please stow any further rants and start trying to find at least one School that can Compete as things are without breaking every NCAA Rule to get there.

Also maybe they should start their own playoff system once they have 32 teams in the PAC 32.

Keeping the Rose bowl as an elite game between Pac12/Big10 teams *and* moving to a playoff format is not possible. If a playoff system emerges, there is no way to maintain that level of interest in a meaningless bowl. And if the Rose Bowl is part of a playoff system, there is no fair way of guaranteeing a Pac12/Big10 matchup due to seeding. Sounds like a pipe dream to me.

IMHO.

There is no question that the Rose Bowl would lose some of its magic if not included in a playoff, but it could still maintain it's prestige and large draw. I think it's funny that the PAC 12 wants to include the Rose Bowl and not worry about the rest. That's their baby, and really the only thing they have.

After getting only two measly bids to the NCAA tourney (seriously, TWO, and the non-auto was a play-in game bid) maybe they're protesting the sport's postseason :P

If the Rose Bowl is not part of the playoffs, it will end up being no more important than the Holiday bowl. It didn't even start as a Big10/Pac-12 game. Pasadena is full of old people with delusions of grandeur and no vision. I will never forget their reaction to Oklahoma being "forced" on them. Eff 'em

Both the Pac Whatever schools and the B1G schools believe in the inherent significance of the Rose Bowl the way Linus believes in the Great Pumpkin. No amount of empirical evidence can make them alter this belief. As silly as their attitudes toward this game are, when it comes to moving toward a playoff system, they are a feature, not a bug. If we go to a four, eight, or sixteen-team playoff system, they can keep playing the d**m Rose Bowl and the Grandaddy of Them All will be as significant then as it is today. The however-many schools that comprise those two conferences will still think it's really important. Nobody else will care. Everybody comes out ahead.
