I've been tagged with that "lefty" thing but in another universe (email to Preibus, I called
the TEA Partiers the most intransigent, robotic group since McCarthy and his minions..got
no response, though). I am "left of center" but, occasionally I agree with [I]some[I] of
the right handed discussion. May I continue to play? Don't know any Marxists, though.

To some people if you don't hold a certain religious view or you side with the prevailing scientific view on some area of science that makes you a "liberal". "Liberal" is an easy pejorative term that gets throw around as a substitute for having to think and reply to the subject. On the coasts you are more likely to hear the pejorative "Nazi" or such in the same way. Here in the heartland the broken record seems to be "liberal".

There are so many different issues, interests, and things to do in life, are people really so basic that you can define their character based just on their political leaning? I hope not, but talk radio/TV and internet message boards paint a rather simple picture.

have left him. Also, heard a report that college students regard him as the LEADER of the

I believe in the yin and the yang. Both are necessary for balance. When I first started posting here, it seemed like the yin outnumbered the yang, maybe 4 to 1. Then we had the great migration of yang from that other board who seemingly overwhelmed the yin, but not really - the powers that be were just not used to balance.

And then so many of the yang were exiled. But now, even though they have the numbers, the yin lay low, depressed in today's state of affairs.

If the presidential election were held today, and all active SF posters voted, and assuming none of them sold their absentee ballots to illegal aliens to raise money for Dean's tip jar, then I believe Romney would whip Obama decisively.

Now who folks vote for may not be the best proxy for lib/con classification, especially with the Ron Paul dimension.

You got your traditional libs, your libertarians, the social conservatives, and your establishment conservatives , and a few other classifications that make for a messy Venn Diagram.

You may call me looney tunes, Olevet. I don't mind and we're still bros. I just don't like the political campaigning on hate/fear and sweeping generalizations from either side. I like logical and reasonable debate.

By now, I should know that I shouldn't be drug into a debate by posters who don't want to listen and paint the world in such black-and-white terms that is frankly just trollish.

No wonder that excessive trolls on one side leads to trolls coming out on the other side of the bridge. That's what trolls do.

I was an economist in Thailand for 20+ years. And, no RUSH LIMBAUGH is my clone!, I am not a "Keynsian/Marxist" economist. Maybe you think your FIFY of my post is really funny. Maybe it really is funny and I'm want to laugh too.

But, there are some posters here who have an insight into international business and how it works. You aren't getting that from MSM or your right wing talking points. I do believe that the Laffer curve and trickle down economics fail in our current economic environment because there are just too many leaks into and out of our open system. How much that open system needs to be closed really should be the debate in my opinion.

I don't get the current misdirection with social issues. While people suffer, there is a "look over here, look, gay men want to love each other".

I don't think the left has really moved in any direction. They've always been largely in favor of higher entitlement spending and protecting their core constituencies like unions. Conservatives, on the other hand have just gone off of a cliff. When I think back to presidents like Reagan and Bush, they were willing to consider progressive tax schemes and able to work with those on the other side of the aisle to reach a decent middle ground.

Now things are so much geared towards winning power and keeping it that nothing meaningful comes out of Congress unless it and the White House are controlled by the same party.
